Something I’ve really come to appreciate in recent years is a nice hot bath. I’m not into setting up candles and making it all romantic and stuff, but I do like to sit back, listen to a podcast and just soak for a while. A lot of times I’ll treat myself a nice LUSH bathbomb, but recently I have also come to appreciate the wonders of Epsom salts.
For most of my life I just thought Epsom Salt was something my grandma kept in her bathroom in a weird container that looked like a milk carton. Which is technically correct, but I didn’t realize that (as with many things) she was totally on to something. Not only is a bath in Epsom Salt great for your skin, but it can also help relieve sore muscles and help sooth period cramps (I’ve tried it, it helps) among a whole gang of other benefits that I’m not qualified to espouse.
So of course being the wannabe crafty lady D-rate Martha Stewart that I am, I decided to experiment with my own DIY bath soak recipes made with epsom salts. Here is the recipe that I’ve been loving lately.
Rosemary Jojoba Bath Soak
Start with two cups of Epsom Salt (That’s the amount recommended for one bath) and pour it into a sealable container. I like to use these wide mouth mason jars because they have the measurements right on the side, and with two cups there is still room to add other ingredients and mix them in. This time I used plain salts, but I also made this recipe with Dr. Teals Milk & Honey Epsom Salt and it was awesome!
Try to ignore the fact that the last photo resembles “yellow snow” It won’t look like that for long.
For some added skin softening I like to use Jojoba Oil in my bath soak. It’s is super light on the skin and absorbs quickly, and it leaves you feeling silky smooth. I add one and a half tablespoons to my jar of salt. BE CAREFUL THIS WILL MAKE YOUR BATH SLIPPERY!
Last but not least for the relaxing, soothing scent I put about 8 drops of rosemary essential oil into the jar as well. The smell actually reminds me a lot of how it smells when you walk past a LUSH store. I asked a friend who used to work there if that’s what gives it that distinctive LUSH smell and she said it’s that among other Hippie oils, so I guess I’ll be experimenting with more hippie oils soon 😉
Once the ingredients are all in the container (if you don’t have a jar you can also just use a tupperware) put the lid on and start shaking. It will give your arms a little bit of a workout, because it takes a fair amount of shaking to mix them all together. Just keep shaking until it’s well combined, it’s worth it I promise.
Once the ingredients are all combined you can either use them immediately by dumping the entire jar right into your bathwater or save them for a rainy day. I always say I’m going to save it, but who am I kidding? I use it as soon as a get a chance.
Do you have any DIY Bath Soak recipes that you love? I would love to hear about them.
