I know what you’re thinking “Raw egg yolk in my hair? Gross, Nicole! Take a hike”
First of all yeah I know a DIY egg yolk hair mask sounds gross… second of all you don’t have to be so mean, gosh!
Yeah it sounds a little icky, but I promise it doesn’t smell bad or feel bad, and it will leave your hair soft and shiny and supposedly the proteins can make your hair less likely to break over time so that’s a big fat bonus as well.
Honey is a great humectant and also serves to bind the whole mask together a bit, and olive oil is one of the best natural moisturizers because it very closely resembles the oils produced by our own skin. Everything in this mask is doing it part.
Plus it’s super easy and you can make it with things that you actually have in your kitchen (not like when you see something on Pinterest that says you can do it with stuff from your kitchen and then it tells you you’ll need a 45 dollar essential oil, a lb. of fresh royal jelly and a tire iron. I hate that.)
- You’ll need 1 egg yolk, about 1 tbs of Honey and 1 tbs Olive Oil
- Mix them in a bowl with a whisk or a fork until they are well combined
- Apply the mixture to your hair, tie it up and leave it in for about an hour before washing it out.
If your hair is super long and/or thick you might need to up the amount of each ingredient a bit. My hair is mid length right now, and very thick and this covered from my ears down without a problem. I don’t usually like to put mask on my roots, they are already moisturized and healthy enough.
So give this DIY egg yolk hair mask a try if you feel like your hair needs a little TLC. Let me know how you like it, and as always tell me in the comments if you have any egg yolk mask recipes that I need to try!
