Im sure it’s pretty clear to you guys by now, but I love me a good store bought beauty product. Give me high end skincare or give me death! That’s a ridiculous exaggeration but you know what I mean. I like high performance products. But I’m also endlessly amazed at how it’s so easy to whip up an awesome DIY that actually works from the simplest things. Nature gave us some pretty bad ass chemical compounds to work with.
I tried this DIY pumpkin hair mask a few times before I get the consistency right, but even when it was a little too runny the first few rounds, it worked SUPER nicely on the hair. Who knew pumpkin was tasty and gave your hair moisture and body? What a multitaskin’ lil mother effer!
This is definitely a seasonal type of idea. Not that you can’t do it in the summer or whatever but everyone is pumpkin crazy in the fall. However you know I don’t like to put ingredients in a mask just because they’re yummy or festive. I want them to work for me. That’s why I listed the pumpkin spice as optional because it’s really just for scent, it doesn’t add any effectiveness to the mask itself. So if you want to turn yourself into a human PSL, then add the spices. If not then the mask will still work the same.
Pumpkin on the other hand is super moisturizing and packed with vitamins that benefit the hair. Specifically vitamin A. It’s also great on the skin and the lips because it’s got a lot of exfoliating enzymes (check out my DIY Pumpkin Lip Scrub, its bomb!) Basically pumpkin is a amazing.
- 2 Tbs Pumpkin Puree
- 1 Tbs Coconut Oil
- 1 Tbs Honey
- 1 Tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice for fun festive scent (totes optional)
Directions:
Make sure your ingredients are room temperature. If your coconut oil is solid like mine was, warm it up a tiny bit until it’s liquid. The reason the rest of the ingredients should be room temperature is to avoid having the coconut oil clump up when you mix it, just FYI. Combine the ingredients in a dish or a bowl and stir. Then apply to your hair roots to ends and let it sit.
I leave mine on for around a half hour and it seems to work out quite well. You could probably leave it longer too without an issue but a half hour does get the job done if ain’t nobody got time to leave it on longer.
This recipe is the perfect amount for one application for me, and for reference I have thick hair that’s currently almost boob length. If your hair is super long you may need to double up the recipe though.
Give it a try, and let me know how you like it! My hair is bouncy and shiny AF right now so I think you’ll really dig this one!
