Here’s the low down: I got a PMD, and because most of the PMD reviews and before and after photos seem to be directly from the manufacturer’s site I figured it might be helpful to some of you who are interested in trying the PMD if I did a little “come along with me” review of it as I go through the treatments.
Maybe it’s because I’m nearing the end of my twenties, or maybe I just finally wised up, but whatever the case in the last year or so I have made a concentrated effort to invest in my skin. I’ve found a really good routine for my daily skincare products, but there are still some bigger issues with my skin texture that I felt like I wanted to address.
The thing I struggle with the most these days is texture. I have some enlarged pores and some pitted scars from when I once had acne, and the issues are concentrated mostly on my cheeks. It’s not a huge deal and I realize I have pretty good skin in the scheme of things, but I still would love to smooth out that texture if I can. I considered a Fraxel Treatment and Microneedling but the truth is those things are super expensive and the results I’ve seen are not impressive enough for me to shell out that sort of cash. Not to mention the time commitment. Between actual appointments and down time after the fact, the amount of time invested is huge. I’ve got things to do people. Six treatments is a pain in my ass.
WHAT IS A PMD:
In case you are wondering what a PMD does, here is the description straight from the horse’s mouth:
“What it is:
A patented, safe, and effective at-home skincare tool that provides the same brilliant results as professional, in-office microdermabrasion treatments.
What it does:
The revolutionary Personal Microderm combines the power of patented spinning disc technology with a perfectly calibrated vacuum suction to brighten, smooth, and even skintone and texture. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, and enlarged pores—allowing makeup to glide on smoother and skincare to penetrate deeper. The exfoliation action removes dead skin cells barrier and supports healthy, natural cell growth, revealing younger-looking, softer, rejuvenated skin. “
Sounds pretty damn good to me. I guess we’ll see if they make good on all those big claims.
The version I got was the PMD With Hand and Foot Kit, I have yet to use the hand and foot portion, but it was on sale for the same price as the one without it so I figured, why the hell not?
It comes with five different level of disks each for both face and body (a few doubles of some colors as well) The fatter disks are for the body and the thinner ones are for the face. Each color is a different level of intensity which they explain in the instructions. It also has a power cord which I didn’t include here because it it made it very annoying to line up for a photo, but you do need to plug it in.
THE TREATMENT
I’ve used it three times now, two of those times with the white “training” disk which is just to get you used to it, and I have to say it’s super easy. It’s not painful or uncomfortable at all and it’s extremely fast to do. In total it takes around ten minutes.
After use my skin is a bit pink but nothing extreme so far, and it feels soft and extremely clean.
THE RESULTS
I’ve only done two training sessions and one full session so nothing notable just yet, but like I said my skin feels great after and my makeup goes on like a dream the next day.
I have also noticed that it has been extra clear since starting. Normally I get a pimple or two around that time of the month and so far this time around I’m clear as a bell. I’m cranky and I want peanut butter cups, but I don’t have any pimples.
WHAT I HOPE TO FIX
Here is a before picture of my skin, close up, no makeup, no flattering lighting, with a macro lens…I’m feeling pretty vulnerable but for the sake of an in depth review here goes nothin’.
It’s not the worst thing in the world, but if I can get some smoother texture out of it then I will be a very happy camper. I mean for the price and the convenience that would basically be a small miracle I think.
WHAT’S TO COME
In a few weeks after some more treatments I will update you guys on my thoughts. Then after six weeks (which is how long they suggest it will take to see results) I will post some before and after photos so you guys can see how my skin has reacted. Once those posts are up I will link them below so check back here or on the main page of the blog for updates.
So far I like it, but it’s too soon to say whether it’s amazing or not.
