These are the exact products that I use, but really this is just a guide to the types of products I think are essential.
Basically the foundation, eyeliner and mascara routine are the same. If you are interested in those as well, you can read about them in my original post.
When I go out at night, I like to wear a bold lip. I mean you can literally put on just mascara and a red lip and look super put together, so obviously you need one in your arsenal. My red of choice is "Russian Red" from mac.
It has a matte finish, which is nice because glossy reds like to migrate all over your face and most of your belongings. We've all seen that girl who doesn't know she's got red all over her face like the joker. You don't want to be that girl. Matte red can get messy too, but it is much easier to maintain. It is also more versatile because if you decide you absolutely can not live without a glossy red lip, you can throw a gloss over it and voila! It's like two lipsticks in one. Do be careful to make sure your lips aren't chapped or dry before you apply any matte color though. Flakey lips aint cute either. There will be a whole post in the near future dedicated to how to prep your lips for lipstick, so stand by for that.
Bold lipstick always looks best when applied with a lip liner. My favorite to pair with "Russian Red" is Urban Decay lip liner in "Gash". The formula on the UD lipliners is really creamy but it still sets and stays on well.
It's a teeny bit darker than Russian Red, so I apply it by filling in my whole lip, then applying the lipstick on top and blending it out. This gives a nice, crisp lip line with just a little extra dimension.
If you don't want to worry about touching your lips up all night (Which I 100% understand, sometimes you just want to snack freely, I get it) you may want to go with a bolder eye rather than a bright lip. This is a very new addition to my collection, but I am in love with the Urban Decay "Vice Palette"
Every color in it is beautiful, and the combinations are basically endless. I have been playing around with it and going "OOOOOO WOW!" since I got it. There are some beautiful, colorful smokey eyes waiting to happen. Obviously you can make a bold look with any brand of eyeshadow, but this UD palette really grabbed me. For a more budget friendly way to get a bold eye, the Wet n' Wild palettes that they sell at most drug stores are surprisingly awesome. That way you can experiment without too big an investment.
When I go for a red lip, I like to keep the cheeks pretty neutral. Usually just use bronzer for a touch of color. But with a bold eye and a simple lip, you may need to punch it up a bit with a nice blush. A great color for a night out is Nars "Desire"
It is a bubble gum pink, with a matte finish. It is very VERY pigmented so using a light hand is important, but when you get it right, it has a natural pretty pink flush. Bright pink doesn't compliment every look though. As mentioned in my previous post, I use Nars "Orgasm" most days so when I feel that color would compliment my "night out" look but I'm bored with it because I wear it every day, I go for it's counterpart "Super Orgasm"
"Super Orgasm" is basically a more pigmented version of the original, with little bits of flakey gold glitter in it. If the glitter sounds a bit much to you, I understand, but it's more subtle than it sounds. Plus you're going out! C'mon grow a pair and wear something glittery!
Another way to dress your face up a bit is by adding a highlighter. A quick swipe on the tops of your cheek bones, your brow bones, down the bridge of your nose and on the cupids bow of your lips, and you instantly look glowy and beautiful. You can (actually I will go as far as to say you SHOULD but that's just my preference) use a highlighter with any look for a night out. My two favorites are
Benefit "Girl Meets Pearl"
This one is a great mix of pink and gold. It has less shimmer and more of a glossy shine.
and Mac Cream Color Base in "Pearl"
This is straight up gold pearly shimmer. No pink here.
Sometimes I even layer them together, to get a really dimensional sheen and glow, you know...if I'm feeling extra sassy.
Regardless of what type of look I'm going for, a night out or a special occasion calls for me to glue things to my face. False eyelashes seem like something out of the realm of normal for most people, but I swear if you get good at applying them you will never look back. The video is very helpful for people who have a hard time learning to apply falsies.
These tips are super helpful. This girl's channel is awesome in general BTW. Very good basic tips without all the BS.
I prefer are Ardell "Whispies" lashes and Duo Lash Adhesive
Last but not least I ALWAYS use a setting spray when I'm going out. A good setting spray will lock your makeup in place so even your foundation and blush looks the same when you get home. My personal favorite is Urban Decay "All Nighter" Spray.
UD does a few of these for different skin types. I have tried all of them either on myself or on other people and they all work very well. There are a few other brands that do good setting sprays as well, but I find that these are the best ones that are readily available to the public.
And that is it. Those are my special-night-out-party-time-lookin-sexy essentials. As always there are a thousand choices of products and they do not have to be brand specific. What works for me may not work for you. The trick is finding the combination which fits your face as well as your budget!
