Last week sometime I saw a photo of Taylor Swift at an awards event, I'm not sure which one, the photo source said the CMAs but it didn't match any of her looks that night as far as I could tell. But wherever she was, her eyeliner looked SWEET.
Doesn't she look awesome?
She just has a simple addition of white liquid liner on top of her black winged liner and the effect is really cool. It is kinda graphic and mod but still current. So I decided to try to do my own version of this look, I know it wont look quite the same because out eye shape and color is so different, but I think the effect will still be cool.
Good new is, it wasn't all that difficult to do either! I created a simple step by step guide to how I did it...
Step 1.
Start with a clean lid primed with your favorite eye primer. Then take a matte nude shadow that is about one shade darker than your skin tone and run it over your lid from your lash line to right below your brow bone as I have done above. This just creates a nice clean slate for you to work on and helps stop your lids from getting oily and ruining the whole darn thing.
Step 2.
Next gently pat a matte highlight color on the brow bone and on the inner corner or tear duct, and matte brown about 2-3 shades darker than your skin tone on the outer portion of your crease. Take a clean blending brush and blend these colors into the nude tone you placed over the whole lid. Right now you are probably thinking "Quit wasting my time! this looks the same, I'm just going to slap the liner on over the first color" But trust me! It is these little details which make all the difference in your makeup. It helps everything look complete and professional.
Step 3.
Next take a white liquid liner and line your upper lash line. You want it to be a bit on the thick side with the thickest part in the middle and the skinniest part right in the inner corner. Take your time and don't rush. Black and white are not forgiving so if you don't take your time it will be messy and people will assume you did your eyeliner in a cab.
Step 4.
Then take a black liquid liner and make a thinner line over the white at the base of the lashes. When you get to the end of the white, flick it out and up a bit to create the wing. As a quick reference, the tip of your winged liner should point at the end of your eyebrow.
Step 5.
Next use a black pencil liner along the bottom lash line, and smudge it in with a small brush, or even a cosmetic Q-tip if you don't have a small brush handy. I also applied a beige liner to my waterline at this point to get rid of some pink-ness. You don't REALLY have to do that part, but again, It's the little details that make the difference in the end.
Step 6.
Finally, curl your lashes and apply mascara to both top and bottom....Isn't it amazing how big a difference curling your lashes and using mascara makes?? From step five to step six is like a different world!
I finished the look off with a matte nude blush and a shiny red lip.
All done!
So it doesn't look exactly like Taylor Swift's...because I just look nothing like Taylor Swift! Also, her wing is a different shape, but I find that shape to be unflattering on my eyes, so I changed it up to suit my own needs a bit...Isn't that what makeup is all about? A great look is nothing if it doesnt flatter your features!
I think I captured the effect with the double liner though! I really like it! The slogan for this look should be "White liner, not just for Cholas anymore"
I hope you guys like it, and If you want to recreate it yourself here is a full list of the products I used.
