My lips have been SO annoying lately. They are just dry all the time for some reason. I’m hydrating, I’m putting balm on them like a madwoman, overnight treatments, the works. Still, they are like prunes!
By now you may have noticed that I love me some lipstick so these flakies have got to go. I wrote a post once on how to prep your lips for lipstick, and getting the dry skin off is a big part of it. I just recently remembered an old trick that I used to use, and I never shared it with you guys! It’s a Honey and Baking Soda Lip Scrub! It works well, it’s super easy and you can make it in your kitchen in like 30 seconds flat.
It may not look that extreme in a photo, but with lipstick over it I would have a mess on my hands. Luckily this is the easiest scrub ever so no biggie. All you need to do this is about one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of baking soda. You mix them up and they make a really thick paste.
It should look a little something like that. Now all you have to do is smear it over your lips and let it sit for about ten minutes. At this point it won’t feel scrubby at all, but you want to let the honey sit because it is a natural humectant and will help soften up your lips.
After ten minutes dampen your goopy lips with a washcloth and warm water. The honey will break down a little, and the baking soda will feel more scrubby. You can either use your fingers or the damp washcloth to gently buff the scrub into your lips in small circles. The baking soda is a really fine grain so it will exfoliate even those small little dry flakes without being too harsh on your lips.
I find that it works really well. The after picture was taken immediately after I used the scrub, no balm or anything applied. But I DO recommend that you apply a balm right after you finish! I like to use something simple and soothing like Palmer’s Coco Butter Stick.
This definitely isn’t a tasty delicious scrub that you want to lick off your lips, or something cute you can put in a little jar and treat yo self too. It’s strictly utilitarian and it gets the job done!
I hope my quick little honey and baking soda lip scrub comes in handy, I know it saved my lips this morning!
