At this point you should have something that looks like the picture above, and it is going to smell so good that you will want to eat it. It smells like coffee and donuts. (Full disclosure, I tasted it and it was delicious) Now like I mentioned in my last DIY SPA DAY post, you want to stand in the tub or shower and scrub this all over you before you turn on the water, in order to get maximum scrubbage out of it. The coffee makes it a bit more gentle than a full on sugar scrub, but still don’t over-do it. You want to exfoliate, not scrape your skin off. You can do this all over your body too, not just the legs. Tank top season is coming too after all. A few notes: 1. When you start rubbing it in, you may see large chunks of scrub falling into the tub. I know when I saw that I was just imagining the phone conversation I would need to have with my boyfriend “Hey can you pick up some Drano?….Because I clogged the tub with a homemade concoction of coffee grounds and coconut oil….?” BUT don’t be alarmed, as soon as I turned on the water the clumps disintegrated and went right down the drain without issue. . . thank god! Hahaha 2. Be cautious! The tub might get slippery. Make sure you rinse everything down well and be extra careful! Falling in the tub is not cool. 3. As you rub it in, your hands may look like they are permanently stained with coffee, but it will rinse off easily, I promise! 4. If your grocery store or local health store don’t sell coconut oil, you can try it with olive oil, but it wont smell as nice (And I like the results with coconut much better!) or you can order my favorite coconut oil on amazon HERE So give this a try and let me know in the comments if you see cellulite results, or if you know more about it than I do.

I just got my very first jar of coconut oil for a BUNCH of DIY gifts I’m doing this holiday season. I happened to stumble upon this amazing blog of yours, and not gonna lie… I’m kind of in love already. I was just curious what the shelf life of this specific project would be? I would love to add little jars of this as stocking stuffer type gifts, but I don’t want to make it too much in advanced. “Merry Christmas, Sister! Now wash your face immediately before your amazing scrub expires.”
Thanks for the awesome beauty blog; I’m seriously so excited to make so many of your DIY projects. <3
Well, coconut oil on it own has a shelf life of about two years. That being said, you are adding sugar and coffee to it so that may invite things to grow in it more actively, so I wouldn’t make them TOO far in advance. So if you’re making them as gifts, then maybe a couple of weeks in advance at most, that way you know they will last until the person gets to use it. And it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep them in the fridge until you’re give them as gifts, just take them out the night before you are going to gift them to make sure they aren’t solid.
They make super cute gifts though, and if you have an Ikea near you they sell really affordable swing top jars that would make a PERFECT gift container. Come to think of it, I might make some of those and give them out this year!
