It’s chilly outside you guys, and by chilly I mean holy crap its ungodly cold. It’s supposed to be -15° tonight and currently outside of my house looks like this…
It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong but I’m inclined to enjoy it from inside next to the fire, ya smell me? And what better to do when you’re cozy inside on a wintry day? A little pampering! Better yet a little DIY pampering so you don’t have to bundle up and go anywhere. This DIY foot scrub is super easy to whip up, it smells like a clean, crisp day at the spa, and it leaves your feet feeling baby soft.
It’s really simple to make too. All you need is some Lavender Epsom Salts, some oil, a little tea tree and some lemon or lime.
I always buy the lavender version of epsom salts for my bath because I like the clean soothing scent. It’s just epsom salt with some essential oils added though, so you can use regular (it won’t smell as spa-like but it will work just as nicely) or add your own essential oils if you have them.
Making the scrub is super easy:
- Melt 1/4 cup Coconut Oil and place in a medium mixing bowl (you can sub olive or avocado oil as well)
- Add 1/2 Cup Lavender Epsom Salt to bowl
- Add approximately 3 drops of Tea Tree Oil
- Squeeze a small amount of lime or lemon into mixture. Approximately 2 Teaspoons.
- Mix all ingredients together with a spoon and place into a glass jar or tupperware.
Each batch should be enough for at least two foot scrub treatments. Just apply some to your feet and rub it in with your hands massaging your feet as you go. The epsom salts act as an exfoliant but the magnesium is also great for relaxing the feet and relieving soreness and tension. The oil will soften the skin, especially combined with the exfoliation from the salt and the natural exfoliant properties of the citrus juice, and the tea tree gives a refreshing and relaxing tingle.
This scrub is on the loose side, so be prepared to use it with your feet in the tub or in one of those fancy foot soaking bath things.
Be super careful if you apply it to your feet in the tub though. Make sure that you rinse the tub down well so you don’t slip and crack your head and cry and ruin your day. That’s not what scrubs are about. Scrubs are about relaxing, not about head injuries. Don’t be silly.
Speaking of tubs you could also add a few scoops of this to your bath water as well, it makes an AWESOME bath soak.
I made a double batch so that I had some for a while, in case I felt the need to treat myself, and then put it in this glass jar to store it. It should keep for at least a week in a cool, dry place.
