One of the most important things anyone ever told me in regards to makeup blending techniques is “Use A Lighter Hand”. Seriously, once you learn to use a lighter touch with your makeup brushes it makes a WORLD of difference. When you get the hang of just tickling the edges of your makeup with a brush to blend it out, things seem to begin to magically blend themselves. It’s amazing.
But if you’re anything like me this is easier said than done…I’ve never been accused of being especially gentle. I’m a bit ham-handed if you will. Old Quinny Ham-Hands.
Lucky for people like me there is a really really easy way to ensure that you use a lighter touch. All you need to do is change where you position your hand to hold the brush…
The closer to the ferrule and bristles you position your hand the more pressure you will naturally be putting on it. The further down toward the end of the brush you place you hand, the less pressure. So position your hand closer to the end of the brush, and naturally use less pressure! Easy peasy.
Now, in all honesty you will still have to make a conscious effort to make sure you are not using too much pressure and being heavy handed, but it helps quite a bit. So for those of us who are a little “light touch challenged” it can mean the difference between struggling or blending like a dream.
If you’re having trouble with your makeup blending techniques, and you need a little help give this a try. It has made my life a lot easier, that’s for sure.
