Contour products can be tricky. Especially if you are trying to find a contour for pale skin. With such a blank canvas underneath it becomes pretty pretty pretty obvious if something is off. On the other end of the spectrum it can be difficult to find contour shades for deeper skin tones, but since I have very pale skin myself and I haven’t worked on clients or models in quite some time I’m not up on the latest and greatest contour products for deeper skin tones, unfortunately. Although I do know that the Anastasia’s darker kits have been getting good feedback.
If you are indeed on the hunt for good products to contour for pale skin, then I have some favorites. I have some that are in my current rotation so I photographed and swatched those, and I also have a few that I have loved in the past which I will give honorable mention for the sake of variety and budgets.
CURRENT FAVORITES
ANASTASIA CONTOUR POWDER IN FAWN // As you can probably tell from the used up ass pan in the photo, this is my all time favorite that I reach for daily. I find that it has the exact right balance of cool and warm. I also personally prefer powder contour just because I think it’s a little quicker and easier to use.
ILLAMASQUA CREME PIGMENT IN HOLLOW // If you are looking for a truly cool toned pigment for very fair skin, this is it. It’s almost completely gray with just a hint of taupe so if you are so fair that everything looks completely orange on you, this will not. It’s also very subtle once you blend it out so unless you really dont blend at all you wont look like you have stripey face
TARTE CONTOUR STICK PARK AVE PRINCESS // For a quick “my face needs dimension but I’m not doing a full beat” type of day this contour stick is my go-to. you can swipe it on quickly and just blend it out for a subtle contour that will also warm up and bring life to the skin. If you are extremely pale this may be a bit too war for you but if you are around MAC NW15-20 ish like me it would be perfect.
TARTE CONTOUR STICK PARK AVE PRINCESS 2 // This is just a slightly darker version of the stick above. I use this one when I have a bit of a tan, and I also use it to add warmth back in to other contour shades if I feel like they look too muddy or pale.
HONORABLE MENTION
BENEFIT HOOLA BRONZER // This is a great neutral toned powder, that is subtle even of fair skin, but it’s also build-able if you want a little more of a chiseled look. I find that of the powders I’ve used this is the easiest and smoothest to blend but I prefer the color of ABH fawn for daily use
NYX BLUSH IN TAUPE // Before I found ABH fawn this was my go to contour powder. Since then they have changed the formula and the way the packaging looks so I’m not sure how much I will still like it, but the color is excellent for fair skin and I would imagine that they revamped the formula to make some improvements. Actually I am going to pick up a new one and see if I can do a comparison for you guys. Stand by for that.
There are plenty of other products that work well as contour for pale skin, but these are the ones that I have had to most luck with personally. Let me know what you thin of them or if you have any that you think I should check out!
