Setting up this FridayFaces post was a bit of a new process this week! I actually had to go through and decide what I wanted to feature this time instead of hoping that I had enough look to post…and there’s a good reason! I’ve been going extra hard making makeup looks. I’ve decided It’s time to push myself hard and get that creativity flowing out there.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed that already because I have been posting makeup looks like crazy on there. It’s all because I got that new camera and I feel like my work actually translates into the photos properly now. It was always a little discouraging to put so much work into my makeup and them take a picture of it and know that it doesn’t look quite as good as it does in real life. That camera is the best money I’ve spent in a long time.
Speaking of spending money, I finally bought a new car! Well, I ordered a new car and I’m going to get it in about ten weeks but still, super exciting. If you know me in real life then you know that I’ve been driving the same Toyota Carolla for almost twelve years now. I love that little car to be honest, and I never want to give her up but the best part is that I don’t have to get rid of her! My husband is going to use her a commuter so my lil baby is still going to live a full life…and we get to also have a fun new car with all sorts of fancy technology. Good sh*t folks.
Oh and by the time you guys get to see this post my Mom and sister will be here to visit me for the weekend and we are going to go hiking and probably have really stupid dance parties and eat delicious snacks. Theeeeeen Matt has a week off from work and we get to have a week of road trips and good times. So summer is winding down which is awesome because I love fall, but we’re gonna end summer with some fun, you hear me? Fun will be had!
This first look was from the day Matt and I went to do a tour of the Zimmerman House. I have always been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright ever since he was the only thing interesting in the entire third semester of AP Art History. So going to tour some house may seem really boring, but I was pretty excited about it. Not everyone goes on a museum tour with a full on cut crease and false lashes on, but I am who I am…and I was excited! He’s pretty much the reason I didn’t let AP Art History class dissuade me from pursuing art and design…the rest of it was soul crushing lol.

So, like I said earlier I’ve been pushing myself to do fun makeup, regardless of whether I have an occasion to wear it to or not. That’s why you shouldn’t laugh that this is what I wore to go grocery shopping on Monday afternoon. Actually you shouldn’t laugh either way, because that lipstick color is too legit to quit and my eyeliner was on fleek da FUQ that day.
I had a little bit of an issue with this lip color crumbling and getting all over my face (even though it still looked really good on my lips which is super weird) but I’m pretty sure I just applied it wrong. I layered when it was half dry, and I think that caused the issue. I wore it around the house the next day to see if it did it again and it was fine.

So this last look is both one of my favorite looks in a long time, and also a damn shame simultaneously. I am in love with how this look came out, and also with the House Of Lashes Iconic Lash that I wore. I really felt like I was channeling my inner Jaclyn Hill.
But if you take note, my skin texture looks like a hot pile of ass. Fun fact: I am allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide, I get tons of tiny bumps on my skin and red patches if it even touches me. We have a Benzoyl Peroxide wash for my dog’s acne (bulldog problems, aimirite?) and if it even touches my arms I break out in a rash. I don’t have too much trouble avoiding it though because I don’t need acne products anymore…but what I didn’t realize is that Benzyl Alcohol is very similar chemically, and I’m allergic to that too. So I used a mask with Benzyl Alcohol, my skin said “I hate you, what are you doing to me?” and then for the next few days I looked a bit like a lizard.
I’m not apologizing for my Lizard face or anything, but I also didn’t want to go crazy and start retouching out all the texture because then I would look like a plastic doll and really…What’s the point? I mean cleaning up images is fine but I do these FridayFaces posts to share my makeup and my life and tell stories and that’s like cleaning away the reality of what went with this look. So there you have it, lizard texture.
These things happen though and we can’t let them stop us from looking fierce. Actually the following days after this look I completely let me skin rest and didn’t put any makeup on at all so it sorta did stop me in a sense, but on day one of this rash I was on fiyah!
I don’t know I think the eyes turned out well enough that it makes up for my skin texture, what do you guys think?
