I’m always getting on people’s asses about keeping their makeup brushes clean. I can’t help it! It’s important and you need to do it, don’t be a stinky kid. But I do understand that its not practical or necessary to deep clean and shampoo them every single time they’re dirty. That’s where spot cleaners come in.
Spot cleaners are something you use to get the majority of the makeup residue off of your brushes between uses and sanitize them. I’ve been jumping around between a few spot cleansers that I use between full on deep cleans for a long time (this is how I deep clean them BTW) but after careful deliberation I’ve concluded that in my humble opinion, as far as spot cleaning goes, the best makeup brush cleaner is Cinema Secrets, hands down.
Here is why I like it:
- It works quickly. Just dip the tip of the brush in, wipe it off on a paper towel and 99% of the time it’s completely clean. ( Sometimes with a stubborn waterproof cream product on the brush you might need to go back and dip again a few times though.)
- It dries quickly. So if say for example I’m about to do my makeup and I realize all my blending brushes have like black eyeshadow on them, I can use this and start my makeup in just a few minutes. This is also a life saver on set if you are doing makeup professionally. I used to carry a tiny spray bottle of this on set all the time.
- It smells amazing. And you’re probably thinking who cares what it smells like? It’s not like you need your brushes to have a nice scent, but the light, fresh, powdery, vanilla scent this leaves is so nice that you will miss it when it’s gone.
Unfortunately you won’t find this stuff in most stores, but I get it on amazon and I have no complaints. an 8oz bottle last a long time anyway so I don’t mind having to order it 🙂
