I have a lot of makeup brushes, and most of them have some sort of name that would suggest what you should use them for. “Angled liner brush” “Blending Brush” “Foundation Brush” Those are all great suggestions, but here is one of the best makeup brush tips you will ever receive:
USE YOUR BRUSHES FOR WHATEVER YOU WANT!
I mean, as long as it makes sense. I don’t suggest applying your foundation with a lip brush because you’ll probably find it pretty tedious, but if you want to try it for pinpoint concealing then you might be on to something!
I have a more in depth post about what makeup brushes I think are good for every day use, and what I use them for (You’ll notice I listed a lot of the unorthodox uses on there as well) But for today I picked three brushes that I use pretty much exclusively for something other than their intended purpose.
- Angled Liner Brush: AKA the brush I use to draw in fake eyebrow hairs. Yeah once in a while I use it for eyeliner if all of my eyeliner brushes are dirty or something, but mostly this is for eyebrows only. It’s thin and densely packed so its perfect for picking up a tiny bit of powder or dip brow pomade and making tiny little hair-like strokes.
- Urban Decay Shadow Brush: I remember when this brush was included in one of the naked palettes, and everyone was bitching and moaning about it. I agree that it’s a very stiff brush, but it’s pretty good for packing on color. However what it’s GREAT for is applying concealer. If you want to apply some concealer very neatly around your brows of even under your eyes, this will lay it down exactly where you want it and nowhere else. You will need to blend it though, because its not actually a wizard despite it’s little cartoon hat.
- Tarte Smudge Brush: I don’t think they make this exact brush anymore, but it was meant to smudge out gel eyeliner and is extremely similar to the Stila Smudge Pot Brush. I never found it very useful for smudging liner, but let me tell you it is an angel sent from above when it comes to applying lipstick. It’s so small and precise, but it’s a bit softer than the usual lip brush so you get even more control, and the rounded edge makes it easy to follow the natural shape of the lip. Perfection.
I hope that was one of the more helpful makeup brush tips you’ve stumbled upon lately. You would be amazed at the different uses for makeup items if you decide to get a little creative.

[…] When I first began doing makeup I knew that I had to invest in decent brushes, so I spent a lot of time hunting for the best brushes of all different varieties and reading reviews and researching like a madwoman and quite frankly wasting my damn time. I was pretty new to the crew and I didn’t get that I should think outside the box. What a dumdum pop. I also didn’t understand why all the lip brushes that I was buying kinda sucked. They were all too small and short. It took 87 years to fill in one lip with them, no thank you. After experimenting a little bit and figuring out what worked for me I realized that the best lip brushes in my collection were not necessarily lip brushes at all. […]
