How to tweeze eyebrows . . .oh so many questions, so little time. If you are looking for info on how to shape your brows, I got a little more in depth about that in THIS POST. Today though, let’s assume your brows are in roughly the shape you want them to be and you feel the need to clean them up by tweezing, but you feel like you could be better at it and the process could be easier. Lucky for you I’ve been tweezing my own brows since the dawn of man, and I have picked up a few tips along the way.
- Tweeze After The Shower - I don’t mean you have to jump right out of the shower and start plucking into a steamy mirror, but if you start plucking relatively soon after a nice hot shower the hairs will be softer and come out more easily. Less painful, and less difficult. Win-win.
- Use Good Tweezers - All tweezers tend to sorta look the same, and it’s pretty easy to assume a pair from the 99¢ bin will be the same as a well known brand. False. Good quality tweezers will make a huge difference in the plucking process. I have learned this by trial and error, but you can skip ahead and learn from my mistakes. Crappy tweezers get dull quickly and then make it very difficult to get those tiny, fine hairs you’re after. As far as shape, I find that slant shaped tweezers work best for plucking brows. Personally, I like to use the Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezers . They aren’t cheap but the price isn’t insane either. I’ve had mine for over a year and they are still working awesome.
- Fill Them First - The best way to map out a good shape is to fill them in as you would normally when you’re doing your makeup, that way you have a CLEAR idea of where you stand and can avoid over-plucking. So just create your shape with your pencil or pomade and then tweeze the strays that lie outside of that area. I circled some examples below.
- Pull in The Right Direction - Once you determine which of the hairs gotta go, you can start plucking. But when you do, make sure that you pull them out in the direction of the natural hair growth. This will both make it easier to get them out, and when they grow back they won’t grow in weird directions. You know how sometimes one will grow back like sticking straight out of your face? Try being conscious of pulling in the right direction next time, it might help. Don’t know what I mean by pulling them out in the right direction? Illustration time!
- Know when to stop - Seriously, don’t over do it . . .or I will beat you up. It’s for your own good. If you are in the habit of tweezing in a magnifying mirror you should probably quit doing that, it’s a very easy way to go too far. (Momma QuinnFace I’m talking to you! ) You also lose the big picture of how the shape looks on your face if you are up too close. So fill them in like I mentioned in Tip #3 and go no further! If you need to be an inch away from the mirror to see a hair, then it can stay. Nobody will see it I promise. If you’ve already over plucked and you’re looking for help with that give my How To Grow Back Over-Plucked Eyebrows post a read. It may help!
So take these how to tweeze eyebrows tips, and put them to good use. Via con eyebrows. Let me know how it goes, and if you have any other tips you want to throw in leave it in the comments!
