I don’t know what’s up with me lately, but I am OBSESSED with citrus. I was never a huge fan of it before, but I have been making lemon cookies, grapefruit drinks, adding oranges to salad, sliced lemon and kumquats in my water. Just up to my eyes in citrus. Lemon is my favorite though, and you know what else is great about lemons? They are magical on your skin. Yup, those little inexpensive fruits that you have a bag of in your fridge are a skin treatment waiting to happen.
Speaking of skin . . .mine has been misbehaving. Mostly for hormonal reasons. A few blemishes have popped up, but more annoyingly I feel like this “time of the month” makes my skin texture feel uneven. I don’t know if that’s really a thing that happens but I swear I notice it every month. It’s almost like every hidden imperfection under the skin gets pushed to the surface and just makes me bumpy. Not to mention it somehow feels dry and oily simultaneously . . .thanks mother nature!
All this comes together to explain the need and function of my lemon honey face mask! This mask saves my butt face when I get a case of the “pimply-bumpy-oily-dry-whatshappeningtomyface’s”
The best part is that it’s easy and you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen. I’m sure I didn’t invent this, there are 965 million lemon scrub tutorials out there, but this is the way that I have found works best. It’s easy, you ready?
- Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a bowl
- Add 1 1/2 Tablespoons of honey (If you use the raw kind you may have to warm it up to make it liquid)
- Add 1 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar (I used coconut sugar but use whatever you have it doesn’t make much difference)
- Stir the mixture together
- Apply the mixture to your entire face excluding your eye area (seriously don’t put lemon in your eyes guys) I even apply it over my lips. It is a thin and messy mask so tie back your hair unless you plan to wash it immediately after and maybe do this while wearing a shirt you don’t love so much, just in case. Once it’s on it will start to feel more sticky and less runny.
- Leave it on for around 5-7 minutes and let it do its thang.
- After it sits for those few minutes stand over the sink, wet your fingertips and begin massaging in the mixture in gentle circular motions. It will begin to break down with the water, and you be able to move it more easily. The sugar won’t feel super scrubby, but that’s ok because the lemon did most of the exfoliating leg work and the sugar is just there for some extra oomph!
- Once you have massaged it into your whole face, rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. You can use a damp wash cloth to help get the excess off if you need to.
- Touch and admire how your face is soft like a baby’s booty!
Seriously, thank you lemon honey face mask for making my skin feel better in this time of need! Gosh I love lemons . . .and honey is a natural humectant so that is probably why it also helps with that dry feeling as well as the bumps and blemishes.
I don’t have active acne on a regular basis so I can’t say whether this would clear that up (as my breakouts tend to go away on their own when the lady times are over) but I have heard that lemon and honey can be really helpful with persistent breakouts as well. My sister actually uses lemon on its own as a spot treatment for pimples and swears by it. So I would say it’s worth a try. . .I bet it stings if you have any open blemishes though so be careful of that.
Really you can try this mask whenever you want your skin to feel nice though, it doesn’t have to be JUST to solve an issue. I do it sometimes when I just want to feel extra purty.
Have you ever tried any honey and lemon treatments on your skin? Give this one a try, or let me know how you like to do it!
