Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I always have a hard time choosing a favorite anything, but there is a fairly solid argument for Thanksgiving. Given the number of times I mention snacks in my posts that are meant to be about makeup and beauty, you will most likely assume it’s my favorite because I get on a one way bus to flavor town and don’t come back until cyber Monday. I mean I do, but that’s not it.
I like the idea of giving thanks. In my old age (I know I’m not old but for the sake of the picture I’m painting just go with it) I have come to realize that being grateful is among the most important things you can do in life. It changes your outlook on every day situations, it changes your overall daily mood and it even improves how you treat other people. I could go on a long tangent about the power of positive psychology because I have done my fair share of reading about it this past year or two, but I will leave you with just an example.
Close your eyes and spend thirty seconds thinking of every good thing in your life at this moment that you can be grateful for. It can be monumental things or something as simple as how good your fall candles smell right now or how warm your socks are. I don’t care what it is I’ll wait here, let me know when you’re done……
Now that you’ve done that, don’t you feel better about things than you did thirty seconds ago? Now that you thought of how much you appreciate that certain someone don’t you want to do more for them? Even if everything is falling apart right now didn’t it feel good to think of what you’ve still got going for you?
Gratitude changes everything. Give thanks today, but give thanks every day. Write it down, say it to yourself before bed, just acknowledge the good.
So in the spirit of thanks I went through my phone and chose some photos that make me feel grateful. I actually wound up choosing way too many so I’m saving most of them for a year in review post for after the holidays, but here are my favorites.
Happy Thanksgiving, I hope you spend the day with people who make you feel good and can look around and be thankful for each moment with them.
As for me I’m thankful for many things and many moments you will see here in the photos, but I’m also thankful for you. For taking the time to read this, for following me on social media, and generally just being the best. Thank you thank you thank you!
