Everyone wants smooth summer legs…unless you’re one of those people who refuses to wear shorts in which case I guess you don’t care. Unless you don’t wear shorts for fear that you don’t have smooth summer legs…hmm. Who knows?
To set the stage for you, I am fair skinned ( MAC NW15 in the winter with no tanner) and while the skin on my face is a total champ as far as not being sensitive, my body skin isn’t so tough. I cant wax because I get bumps. The wrong razor gives me bumps. I deal with eczema. If I so much as absentmindedly scratch my chest I will have giant red streaks across it for hours and then people ask me what happened as if I encountered a wolverine on the way to dinner.
So my routine for smooth summer legs is geared toward those with such issues as you can imagine.
Here is my routine
- SCRUB AND EXFOLIATE // Exfoliating before you shave will help alleviate any ingrown hair and razor bumps, but it will also just help contribute to general smoothness. I like to exfoliate with my Salux Skin Cloth which I have written a full review on if you care to give that a read. However you prefer to do it get in there and get scrubbing.
- SHAVE WITH A FRESH RAZOR // My favorite razor is the Schick Hydro Silk Razor for sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for years and I swear by it. That being said…you guys, you have to be diligent with changing the blade on your razor. I change mine once a week and honestly even that is pushing it a little. Dull blades and built up bacteria do NOT a smooth leg make. You got it? Change that shit on the regular my friends.
- USE TEND SKIN // Let’s get real for a moment. The bikini line (which meets your leg so I’m including it in this) and the inner thighs can be extremely prone to razor bumps and ingrown hairs. After you shave, just go over wherever you have sensitive skin with tend skin, which I have also written about before. It calms redness, prevents bumps and exfoliates to help further avoid ingrown hairs. It stings a little, but that’s good for you. It builds character…and it WORKS.
- FAKE TAN (IF THAT’S YOUR THING) // I like to apply my fake tan immediately after doing this whole routine. Specifically because that way I’m not scrubbing off the tan for a few days. I’m partial to the St. Tropez 2 Hour Express because I find that it looks natural, it lasts, and I like that you rinse it off after two hours so you don’t have to walk around smelling like fake tan all day. If you don’t fake tan then just skip this step, but personally I think it’s the icing on the smooth summer legs cake. It helps hide blemishes, it makes everything look even and more toned. I dig it.
Follow those simple steps and your legs should be super smooth and beach ready in no time
Yep those are my hot dog legs, and my sandy feet, and the beautiful Caribbean waters. Look how smooth though! Not a bump in site. If you knew how long I struggled to get my leg game strong then you would know what an accomplishment this feels like!
Hope you find this helpful if you’ve been struggling with the same issues I was. I’m gonna go close my eyes and pretend I’m back on the beach now.
