I used to be that person who didn’t think makeup organizers would do anything for me. I just had like five drawers where I kept different things and I tossed everything in there and just dug around in it to find what I needed. Eventually I began to realize that if I can’t see the things I have, then I’m going to forget about them. I mean I have a good amount of makeup so I need it to be in front of my face to remember whats in there, my memory isn’t that good, ju feel me?
So after I purged some of my collection that I don’t really use and moved everything into my new makeup room/office I decided that it was time to organize things a bit more. Whyyyyy haven’t I done this sooner you guys? Someone should have slapped me years ago and made me get organized. I can actually see all of my stuff now…well most of it. I put some of the things I don’t use very often in the closet. But the bulk of the stuff I want to use regularly is right in front of my face, just begging me to use it now.
I organized this part a while ago, but brushes pencils and long things of that nature make more sense standing upright. Brushes for obvious reasons, because you can be squishing them and stuff, duh. But the pencils and liquid lipsticks are just easier to see this way. I had them laying down and it was just chaos. I didn’t buy anything fancy, I just used fun cups and candle holders that I thought would work. Now on to the drawer.
I have an Ikea Malm dressing table, which has seen better days, but I like the big wide drawer and the fact that it isn’t a huge bulky storage unit like the ikea Alex series that everyone seems to use for makeup. But the one big drawer doesn’t have any dividers in it, which I didn’t think was a problem but now I know it is and we already told this story so let me stfu now. Now that I’ve added the dividers things are making much more sense and I find myself using more things and getting more creative because I have everything laid out in front of me.
I found my drawer organizers on amazon, and they weren’t super cheap but they also we not as expensive as one of those big acrylic units of drawers that sit out on your desk…which I’m not a fan of anyway. I’m trying to make things look neat and put away why do I want to see what’s inside the drawers? I just don’t get those.
I suggest if you decide to order some organizers for inside a drawer that you measure the drawer and see what will fit first. If you do happen to have an Ikea Malm Table then the picture above is a cheat sheet for you! You can fit three of these large ones and one of the smaller ones. As you can see I’ve divided the makeup into semi-specific categories and even managed to fit some palettes in there. Not too shabby huh? It’s not a huge drawer but now most of my makeup is at my desk, and well organized so I’m pretty happy with it!
The point is, if you have a huge drawer full of makeup that you dig through every day try getting a makeup organizer even if you don’t think you need one, it will make you use so much more of the stuff you already have, I swear!

Is that a lit makeup mirror? I’m trying to find a good one….
It is! It’s not the greatest to be honest because it sorta always sinks down (I don;t know if you can tell but I put gold duct tape on the top to hold it in place lol) But i have had similar ones before that were better and I always find them at either CVS or Wallgreens!
I’ve just been having a little nosey through your blog and I’m loving it! I swear by jars to hold all my brushes and liners etc, great idea.
Thanks Emily! Glad I’m not the only one using the jar method lol 😉
