More like thick thighs cause chafing…amiright? It’s time for a little session of what I like to call ‘real talk with Nicole’ where I share tips with you on topics that people don’t always like to talk about. I’m not shy, and I have a lot of experience with chafing so here are some facts:
- Although I’m in shape now, there was a time when I was pretty overweight
- Even now I still have thick thighs and all the chafing issues that come with them
- Thighs are not the only place you can have chafing problems, but this tip will work other places too so no worries I still gotchu
- I have been searching for a thigh chafing cure for years, and only found this one that works for me recently
- You don’t have to be overweight, or even thick or curvy to deal with chafing in the summer
That last one was a little difficult for me to initially wrap my head around because when I was overweight I always associated to problem with my weight. Now that I’m leaner, the problem is less severe but when it does start to happen the first place my mind goes is “maybe this is happening because I’m gaining weight or something” but that is not the case (I checked lol) I have also come to find out that even my skinny mini sister, and my super thin friends all deal with the same thing to some degree. I had no idea it was such a common issue, I wish I could go back in time and tell my former self that it happens to a ton of people and stop getting so down on yourself and all that jazz.
Being that it is indeed such a common thing to deal with in the summer months I figured I would share the simple trick that helps me with this nasty little issue…seriously though chafing is SO nasty. It hurts, it leaves marks, it can get so bad it even gets dry and peels not to mention it’s super embarrassing to walk around like a cartoon cowboy who just got off a horse because you don’t want your legs to touch and send searing pain from the bowels of hell through your skin. It friggin’ awful, you guys.
But the solution that I found is simple: Natural Deodorant.
The key word here is natural, not for any sort of hippie reasons (this time) but because natural deodorants don’t contain an antiperspirant, and usually DO contain coconut oil. I have heard in the past that regular deodorant is a thigh chafing cure, but then when I put it on it actually made the area dryer and more sticky and eventually made the problem worse. Not to mention I felt like it was a little concerning for me to slather antiperspirant near my lady parts…ok maybe it is for hippie reasons…partially.
Now that I have been using Lavanila healthy deodorant for a while I decided to give it a try on the area of my upper thighs where it tends to chafe, and I have had literally ZERO thigh chafing. None. I walked a mile to a restaurant in 95 degree weather, in a dress and my thighs felt fabulous.
The key is that it lubricates the area and keeps is soft and conditioned, but because it has thickening ingredients like corn starch and baking soda, it actually stay where you put it. I have tried just using coconut oil, or jojoba oil before and while it works initially, it’s gone in like 15 minutes. So the natural deodorant is the perfect ‘in the middle solution’ It’s not super dry like real deodorant but it’s also not super greasy and thin so that it disappears.
I do find that it could use a little touch up once or twice throughout the day, but I like to carry a mini size one of these in my makeup bag to touch up the pits in the hot weather anyway. Gotta stay fresh, ju know?
I don’t know if this will be a one size fits all thigh chafing cure, but if you haven’t found a solution yet then give it a try. I have only used to Lavanila Healthy Deodorant but any natural deodorant with similar ingredients will most likely do the same thing.
Let me know if it works for you, or if you have some other miracle cure for chafing that people need to try. You guys have the best suggestions sometimes!
