I have a confession…I’m a never nude…

Ok I’m not a never nude but my nails are. If you too are a never nude then you might be dealing with some discolored nails. Are you constantly wearing polish and that’s why your nails are discolored, or are you constantly wearing polish because your nails are discolored…nobody knows at this point, it’s a chicken and egg scenario but it doesn’t matter. It is what it is.

Constant polish definitely takes it’s toll, so god forbid you want to go with the natural look or some sort of negative space nail art that shows their true color then you might find yourself in a pickle. Stained yellow nails are not super cute.

I have tested a few ways to remove stains from your nails, some were more effective than others and none of them left the nails perfect, but there are options. The problem is that those options are pretty time consuming, and I’m terribly impatient and prefer a quick fix now and then. I have things to do and snacks to eat I can’t always marinate my nails in lemon juice when they look jacked up, ya know?

Mine aren’t SO bad right now but they definitely aren’t happy and healthy looking. The quick fix for discolored nails is very simple, you need a brightening base coat!

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat

There are a few different versions of this product on the market. I’ve used this one and I’ve also tried the Dior Nail Glow and both work well. Generally speaking they are clear pink products that have a violet iridescence. When applied to the nail the pink brightens the nail bed and makes it look healthy and the violet, which you can’t see once it’s dried counteracts any yellow or (god forbid) green tones. It works pretty damn well I have to say.

They look actually kinda healthy! I mean let’s get real I’m not going to wear them plain like this for very long anyway, but they will look much better if I add a cool metallic tip to them or something.

Definitely better! And I bet if I did some of the little tricks I tried in my adventures in stained nails post and then used this on top they would look like they were in mint condition.

So if you struggle with discolored nails give one of these pink, brightening base coats a try. It’s only a temporary fix but it gets the job done well enough!
