As you probably already know there has been a lot of controversy around Lime Crime lately. Until recently I hadn’t been paying attention to what was going on with them on social media, because sometimes online drama is just a lot and you miss some of it or pass over it. A few people had told me about their restocking issues, and I was like “Oh ok happens to the best of us I guess” and I figured people were just over reacting. I didn’t realize there was a whole other controversy going on.

Then I got an email from them regarding a security breech on their site and I started paying more attention. Funny enough I did have my debit card stolen right after I purchased “salem” in October, but I caught it before they charged anything major and didn’t think in a million years that it would have happened when I was buying a lipstick online. It could still be a coincidence I guess, but it could also not be a coincidence.

Whatever the case, I would probably never use my credit card again at any retailer that I suspect may have caused it to get stolen. If I used a shady ATM and my debit card was stolen shortly after I wouldn’t use that ATM again, know what I mean? That combined with some of the highly questionable behavior the company has displayed in response to the incident and elsewhere…I’m not going to be purchasing anything from them again. I’ll use what I have already because money doesn’t grow on trees and I paid for that sh*t, but no new purchases.

The bummer in all of this is that they do have some shades that are fairly unique to the mainstream market…keyword being mainstream. The most “unique” being Cashmere and Salem. Good news is that there are a BUNCH of Lime Crime dupes from independent companies popping up on Instagram and Pinterest now that all of this is going down so I figured I would make a list of all the dupes I see popping up and I can add to it as I find more.

That all being said, I am not here to tell you what to buy or how to spend your money, so if you feel like you want to continue purchasing products from Lime Crime then that’s totally your choice and I respect that 100%. I just think it’s helpful to gather some alternatives for those who don’t want to.

So here are a list of dupes for Salem and Cashmere and I will also try to find some for Riot if I can (I already saw one but it’s not in stock yet) I am only going to list ones that are also liquid matte lipsticks because I think the formula and the finish are a large part of the draw of these shades. They aren’t all exact dupes (some are pretty dead on though) but I think it will be good to have a list to explore your options.

CASHMERE DUPES:

SALEM DUPES:

RIOT DUPES:

• LaSplash Latte Confession
• Kat Von D Lolita (I don’t own riot but these both seem extremely similar in photos)
• Colorpop Bumble (Very very similar in color and formula)

I will keep updating the list as I see more. I will also only be linking to possible dupes in the future if I happen to wear one of these colors in a blog post. I wouldn’t feel right if somebody got their money stolen shopping through a link on my site. Yikes, that would be awful.
