It’s here! It’s here! My favorite post of the year! I know it seems silly for this to be a favorite, but I really do love fall lipstick colors. For last year’s Fall Lipstick Post I somehow only picked four colors. This year I had a hard time even narrowing it down to five! I must have been off my game last time, that’s so not like me. To be fair, it was a crazy time.
I can’t even begin to tell you how good I feel when dark lipstick season starts. I know I could wear them year round (and I do find ways to sneak them in there, don’t get me wrong) but something about pairing a dark lip with cozy clothes just makes me feel like I look my best. Also lipstick and beanies go together like PB&J, so there’s that . . .crap, now I wan’t a sandwich.
These are the colors I’m most excited for right now, but the four I picked last year will also still be in heavy rotation this year too so don’t forget to go check those out too.
Fun fact, this was actually the first makeup item I ever owned. Not this exact tube OBVIOUSLY, but this product. My mom got one as a gift with purchase and gave it to me. All these years later, and it’s still an awesome product. It’s like the original tinted lip balm, but with a darkened, sophisticated, fall approriate twist. It’s got just enough color, and it feels like a balm but less messy. It’s definitely one of those products that’s a cult classic for a reason. This is what I reach for when I want that fall lip look but I’m totally too late to put on a bold lipstick. It often rides in my handbag and comes on all my adventures with me. Friends for life <3
I’m a big fan of the Bite Beauty Matte Lip Crayons, I wrote about the Color “Blood Orange” in my Orange Lipsticks Five Ways post, but I think they discontinued those colors and relaunched the whole line shortly after that. Not quite sure what the deal is there. But THIS Aubergine color is brand spanking new and I’ll tell ya, I’m feelin’ it. It’s purpley and awesome and smells like orange creamsicle, it wears really well without being dry and it’s made with all natural ingredients. But for real, check that color out. It’s awesome.
I won’t go into super tremendous detail about this because I wrote and entire full length review on this shade recently, but I like to think of it as an amped up version of Nars Autumn leaves. It’s a little glittery for my usual taste, but it’s so glittery in fact that it goes beyond princess-y looking and right into “cool and sorta edgy”. I think the orangey-brown tones help with that a bit as well.
What would fall lipstick be without a deep dark burgundy color, amiright? Mac diva is a staple for me this time of year. Sometimes colors this dark can be hard to wear because even if they get a little messed up or worn off they look insane. Something about worn off dark red lipstick says “I was just chased by a serial killer” or “woo! last night got a little out of hand, huh?” Luckily, MAC’s matte formulas wear very well, so you can probably avoid that scenario. I applied it by itself here to give you the idea of what it looks like unadulterated, but I often pair it with a dark liner underneath just to be safe.
Every season needs a go-to classic red color, but for fall I like to go with one that’s a slightly darker version of it’s bright red cousins. My red of choice in this scenario is Stila’s Fiery. I don’t think photos do it justice, but in person its a dark red that looks like a rich velvet on the lips. I usually get compliments every time I wear it, so it must be good.
Those are my picks for fall lipstick this year. Do you have any go to colors that you like to break out this time of year?

I’m excited about Aubergine, I was wondering where those matte crayons went- luckily I got my hands on Blood Orange before it disappeared. I’m not really a lipstick kind of girl, but I’m trying to step up my game- I have Black Honey and UD’s Shame on rotation.
Oh that’s awesome that you grabbed blood orange before it disappeared! It’s such a great color, I wish I had gotten backups lol
I love the fiery it’s amazing on your skin but the Mac diva is FEIRCE if I’m allowed to say that in 2014 .. Sort of ballsie for a bride but I know a girl who could pull it off:)
Hahaha who ever could you mean? 😉
I love this post! I just purchased Mac Diva- first time wearing a matte lipstick. I love it!! I was pleased to see it on your list. love your site 🙂
Thanks so much Ashley! I bet it looks awesome on you!
I knew I shoulda bought stila fiery!!
What is your take on stila beso ?
I thought I would love it but I like the lime crime red velvet color and formula better. And I adore my mac ruby woo for most days. Gotta agree with you on the clinique black honey. First lip product I ever owned that didn’t wasn’t lip smackers. Gotta try diva and the kat Von d one you mentioned.
I looooove beso, but I haven’t tried lime crime in red velvet so it’s hard to compare. I do love the velvetines that I have in other colors though! I’m a total sucker for matte liquid
