I go through some serious phases. Like sometime’s I’ll eat greek yogurt every day for like an entire year, and then I’ll suddenly hate it and stop eating it for a few months. Then I try it again and the cycle starts all over. I’ve done the same thing with just about every type of food you can imagine.

It doesn’t end there though. I go through phases with my hair and makeup too. Most recently it’s been nails actually. It all started when I saw THIS geometric nail art. Then I saw something similar on Pinterest. Then I saw Aubrey Plaza on the daily show with the same manicure. That was the final straw, I was making it happen on my hands. I got out the colors and the tape and it was love. I am obsessed with geometric nail art now. It’s the greek yogurt of my fingers.

The great part about these are that they’re pretty easy. For this first one I applied two coats of Sinful Colors Easy Going and waited so patiently… So SO patiently for them to dry. It was so hard. I seriously have a problem with patience. When it was (finally!) dry I taped off triangle shapes with regular old scotch tape and painted the triangle area with one coat of OPI 4 in the morning. 4 In The Morning is a satin finish, which looked kinda cool on top of the pink but in the end I decided it needed topcoat. Thats the beauty of matte and satin polish, you can just add topcoat and make them regular.

So I wore the hell outta this and got one million compliments, which must have gone to my head because when it eventually chipped and I took it off, my next manicure looked like this . . .

This one was also stupid easy. I started with two coats of Essie Power Clutch and then used a thin nail art brush to apply ORLY Glowstick to the tips french manicure style. But instead of making the line straight across the tip of the nail I made it come to a point. The extra fun part of doing that is it gives the impression that your nails are a little more pointed than they are, so you get to have the illusion of a more extreme shape without the commitment!

And my most recent incarnation of this geo-obsession, which is actually still on my fingers, is cutout stripes. This was fun because it plays with negative space a little. Again, this was super easy. All I did was lay two pieces of striping tape across the end of each nail. The trick is to remember to leave a little bit hanging off the end so it’s easier to peel off . I learned that the hard way.

After the striping tape was down I applied two coats of OPI Black Onyx. When that was almost dry but not quite, then it was time to peel off the tape. When the tape is off it’s best to wait until the black polish is pretty close to dry before you put on your topcoat, otherwise the lines will much together a bit. I did mine a tiny bit too early, but luckily they didn’t mush TOO much and it was still acceptable.
