Do you ever see girls who have perfectly smooth eyelids without putting anything on them? Well I’m gonna find them all and beat them up. Joking, but I am totally jealous. I am pretty fair skinned, so the thin skin of my eyelids is pretty much translucent, and the little veins that show through can sometimes create a less than ideal canvas for makeup. It just sort of muddies up your colors, and makes everything look a little less smooth and polished. Especially if you are doing a simple neutral look, or just a wash of a light color. This is not a problem only for pale girls either, many people have discolored or veiny eyelids for many reasons.
If you fall into this category, the good news is its a really easy fix. All you need to do is choose an eyeshadow primer that looks like your skin. Wanna see what I mean?
I don’t have the veiny-est eyelids in the whole world or anything, but it’s juuuust enough to make my eyeshadows need a little help.
My primer of choice for this task is the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden. If you are on the fair side and not super pink or super yellow, this primer is awesome. But for other skin tones that are darker or maybe more yellow or more pink or whatever I would suggest one of the matte neutral shades of MAC paint pots. There is a much better variety of colors in those and they are the next best thing to Primer Potion as far as keeping your makeup on all day.
Part of the key to this trick (that you can see above) is to take the primer all the way up to your brow, even if you aren’t planning to put any shadow that high up. It will act sort of like a concealer for the area and make it look nice and smooth and polished, even with nothing else on it. You will want to to this before you fill your brows for sure, but a little added bonus is it will help keep your brows in place too! The last thing you want is your eyebrows sliding down your face halfway through the day, so the tighter they are on there the better.
To illustrate my point I just did a very simple wash of pale pink over the lids, but they still look really polished and clean. No veins or discoloration in sight. I also added a little bit of super shimmery pencil to the waterline because I’m really obsessed with this color at the moment. I just couldn’t help myself.
If you have very dry lids that never get oily and crease your makeup, you can also try doing this with concealer as a primer. But honestly even if you have the driest lids, primer is probably better.
So thats my trick for dealing with my veiny eyelids! As always, if you have your own tricks on how to deal with this leave me a comment! You guys have the best ideas!
