Heatless Curls Overnight With Soft Rollers

I have tried pretty much every way of doing heatless curls overnight. Buns (made my roots all weird and flat) Braids (don’t like the way those waves look) Foam Roller Rods (can’t sleep with them in) I like the way my hair looks after I wear a sock bun to bed, but that isn’t really a wave so much as a nice bounce added to it, sort of like a blowout. I was pretty much convinced I was out of luck on this one.

Last week on a whim I ordered a set of “Pillow Soft Rollers” because sometimes you watch Netflix and order things online at night when you’re bored and that’s just how life in 2014 goes. To my complete bewilderment these things actually worked.

At first glance, they looked to me like a package of some sort of old-timey sanitary napkins. I didn’t have high hopes . . .at all. But I put them in my hair anyway, because I’m dedicated.

Upon further inspection the design makes sense, albeit a little medical looking. They are a soft fabric pod with a foam middle and a bendy, soft-ish wire through the center. To use them you just roll your hair around them like you would any curler, and then bend the wire to keep them in place. Now the instructions don’t mention this, and the pictures on amazon don’t seem to illustrate this, but the ONLY way that these will stay in your hair while you sleep is if you twist the ends of the wire together like a bread tie. You heard it here first, the bending method alone will fall right the heck out on your pillow. Which is annoying because like any rollers, putting them in takes time. Twist them like THIS instead.

Of any overnight curling method I have tried, these are by far the most comfortable. They didn’t keep me awake or make me uncomfortable at all. They did definitely make me look really funny though. I texted my friend a picture of me wearing them and she said I looked like “crazy eyes” from Orange Is The New Black and my mom described them as “Less damaging on your hair, but more damaging on your love life” So keep that in mind . . . Moms are wise.

Before I used them I washed my hair, put some oil spray and some styling cream in and then let it air dry. Then I rolled ‘em up (sent funny selfies to friends and family) and went to bed.

When I first took them out, It looked like this. Not too shabby! Nice loose curls, no weird crimped ends or anything. Great success!

A few hours later the curls softened into more of a wave, but I still liked it! And it stayed in pretty well considering that I didn’t use any hairspray or heat protectant (which has some hold) and it was pretty humid out that day.

These soft roller dealies are by far my most successful attempt at heatless curls overnight. The health of my hair will thank me, and my fiancé will learn to stop laughing at me . . .eventually.

Thank you! I have lots of hair so I wound up using the entire package of them. I think there are about 18-20 of them in all.
