I am always on the lookout for products that give me lots of options for glowing or radiant skin. I am also always hunting for makeup products that can multitask, because if being awesome at a few things is better than being awesome at just one thing, I think thats a life rule more than it is a makeup rule! So in the spirit of these two ideals, let’s talk about the skin corrector and perfecter that you NEED in you makeup kit. . . At least in my opinion.
The Multicolored dollop on the left is Stila One Step Correct. The Right is Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in “Pearl”. Full disclosure before I even begin to describe these, neither of them are cheap. They are definitely a little bit of a splurge. But they are both fantastic and they work well for multiple things so I think they are one of those splurges that are worth it. I always say if you’re going to spend drop a lot of cash on something make it skin makeup or good brushes. (Although good brushes aren’t always pricey)
Stila One Step Correct is a gel-like product which is mostly clear, but has some violet, peach and green swirled through it. The idea is that when you spread it on the skin those colors will help diminish any discoloration. You can use it as a primer, and it will lend a smooth natural finish to your look and seem as if it was applied to bare skin but better. It will also make your foundation last longer, but not as long as some heavier more tacky primer.
You can also use this alone, just to even out the natural skin tone and it will look better than your bare face, but literally seem as if nothing is on your skin. I have used this on men for photo shoots before, just to polish their look but keep it really natural, and it turned out very well. Dudes (who aren’t models) are always a little skeptical when you start slathering them with things but all of them were pleasantly surprised by how natural they looked. You can also mix a little teeeeeeny tiny amount of foundation into it and it makes a light as air finish with just a little bit of coverage, and none of the oiliness or shine that can sometimes come from a BB cream or tinted moisturizer.
In other words, I love this stuff and I find that even when I switch to something else for a while I always come running back into its arms.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is a little different but can be used for a ton of different things too. I use the color pearl, which is pretty much stark white with highly reflective pearl, but it may turn out a little ashen looking on deeper skin tones because of how pale it is. Luckily there are other colors like Opal which are still beautiful and highly reflective, but will compliment darker skin much more nicely.
You can use this as a primer, and when you put it on you will look shiny. Like “Oh god this was a mistake. I look like the tin man” shiny. BUT once you apply a medium to full coverage foundation over it, it will give you a beautiful dewy glow that looks like you are just radiating angelic light from within. Seriously. You won’t need any other highlighter, that’s for sure. I have never had a “radiant” primer that showed through my foundation and made any difference before I tried this stuff. If you are oily in the T-zone I would definitely powder over it though, because we all know there is a fine, fine line between dewy and greasy.
The beauty of this product is that you can also dab it gently over your foundation (I like to do this with a stippling brush and then pat it in with my fingers to blend) and get just as much glow, in a more selective area. So if you are looking for a glowy look that is just a little bit less “full on” then you can use it that way and still be a radiant angel in the morning mist or whatever, but only in the places you choose. I especially love to dab some of it on the cupids bow of my lip, it gives a plump, almost a glossy look without there being gloss on the entire lip.
As if that weren’t enough dewy goodness, you can also take a very small amount of this and mix it in with your foundation for an “all over” glow that is more subdued. Almost like MAC Lustre Drops. Just a little dab gives a subtle glow. Beeeeeautiful.
So Those are my must have skin correcting makeup items. I highly recommend them if you are looking for for something to give your skin a little extra somthin’ somethin’ .
