I don’t know about you, but I need a little convincing on all this “Spring is in the air” talk. I guess it’s technically starting soon, but it’s still cold here and I need a little bit more of a push to get me in the spirit. So I figure a good way to do that is to talk about spring nail colors.

Truth be told, I don’t gravitate toward spring colors all that much, so you may notice that some of my choices are not exactly the traditional spring pastels. But isn’t that a good thing in a way? I most likely won’t be talking about the same colors as one thousand other blogs, and you can see other options incase pastels aren’t your thing either. Variety is the spice of the internet, or something like that.

• Sally Hansen “Pacific Blue” - I think I mentioned this one last year at some point, but I can’t recall if I talked about this or Nails Inc. “Baker Street”. Either way, this affordable little gem is a favorite, and if it has been discussed twice it deserves it. In photos it looks more like a “Fisher Price” blue, but in different varieties of lighting you can see that it has a brighter, more cornflower blue quality. It’s probably one of the most interesting blues I have come across, and it’s from a drugstore brand! Don’t you love when that happens? It is also really good quality. Goes on smooth, opaque in two coats, and wears as long as a higher end polish.
• OPI “You’re Such a Budapest” - For some reason this pastel works for me, even though I usually don’t dig them. It’s a pale purple, leaning toward the blue side which kind of gives it a more muted quality I think. I don’t know it just makes sense to my eyes. The finish is pretty much a creme, but if you look closely in the light there are tiny TINY micro shimmers in it that are barely noticeable. It sort of adds a little interest I guess, but really you would never even notice it unless you were looking up close and personal. As with most OPI polishes, the quality is nice but to get it to be 100% opaque you might need three coats. Such is life when you choose such a pale color I suppose.
• OPI “Next Stop… The Bikini Zone” - Love this color, HATE the name. I’m wearing it right now and someone asked me what it was, and I felt ridiculous saying that name. It sounded like I was answering them with some sort of weird non sequitur. That being said, someone actually stopped me to ask what color was on my nails, so it must be pretty neat looking. It’s a duo chrome that sits somewhere between bronze and mauve, and has just a sprinkle of fine silver glitter. Definitely interesting and spring appropriate. I noticed on some Instagram photos that people were complaining that this was too close to some other colors OPI had come out with recently, but I have to say that compared to other duo chromes that have come out in recent times, this one is fairly unique. It’s also one of those colors that is pretty forgiving so if you get a few small chips in it, it wont be glaring in your face.
• Zoya “Brigitte” - Speaking of forgiving colors, who doesn’t love a beautiful neutral for spring? Zoya “Brigitte” is a mauve creme nude. It’s a bit of a chameleon, sometimes it looks almost like a camel color, and in other lights it is almost purple mauve. I like that, because it keeps me from getting bored to quickly. I have nail polish ADD. I also like that this reads as a neutral, but still gives a touch of color to the hands, because with my pale skin I feel like true nudes make me look a bit dead, ya know? As for quality, it applies well, doesn’t require more than two coats and has an average wear time.
• Sally Hansen “All Fired Up” - Let’s face it, a classic red works all year. But to get a little more of that spring pop of brightness in your life while keeping such a classic look, you just have to switch the little nuances around a bit. For spring and summer I like to choose a red that is almost orange but definitely still red, if you follow what I’m saying. “All Fired Up” fills my needs in this department perfectly. It almost feels like the nail polish version of Lady Danger Lipstick by MAC. And the Sally Hansen “Complete Salon Manicure” formula is awesome, it applies really easily and wears well, and the brush is nice and wide and rounded which makes it easy to cover the entire nail in just two or three strokes. Definitely a pleasure to apply!

Those are my spring favorites at the moment, now if the temperature would get above 45 so I could appreciate them . . . that would be great 😉
