So word on the street internet is that glossy lips are hot for Spring. Which is ok by me because glossy lips are pretty and easy, but honestly throwing on a sheer gloss doesn’t exactly inspire me to write. Oh, and don’t expect me to put away a bold matte lip anytime soon either, because trends come and go but a bold matte lip is forever. So in the spirit of exploring trends I came up with a few fun glossy lip combinations for spring that are a little less simple than throwing on a clear glossy pink, but maybe a little more interesting as well.
I’ll link all the products I used if they are still available, but you can accomplish these types of looks with a variety of brands and slight shade variations. For some reason half the products I used are discontinued, I hate when that happens. Some of them were SO good too. Oh well
This first combination is the softest and most traditionally “lip-glossy” of the bunch. To add a bit of interest to the look first I used an orange-peach lip stain in the inside center of the lips. I used Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain in Guava, but it was one of the discontinued products. Huge bummer, but THIS is similar. I gave it a few seconds to settle in and then I applied an ultra shiny peach gloss with gold shimmer over the entire lip. I used Dior Ultra Gloss Pearl 436, but if thats a bit pricey for your taste there are a ton of drugstore glosses that fit the bill for this look.
The result is a juicy looking peach lip with a pop of brightness in the center. I think this look is very delicate but still interesting, and it will be easy to reapply on the go as well.
Second look. No shimmer + medium shade = Graphic but not super bold. I’ve been really into rosy pinks lately, I never really liked them before, but I recently stumbled on two lip products in this tone, I loved them both and now I combined them for this lip which I also love. I started with a matte lip stain, Tarte Matte LipSurgence in Destined, but again . . .no longer available. WTF is going on today? Luckily Tarte has the Matte Lipsurgence Pencils in a few very similar colors that will achieve roughly the same look. But still, I am not pleased. Aaaaaanyway, I let that settle into the lip for a minute or two because I find when I do that it lasts longer and the gloss applies more evenly over the top. Next I simply applied Pop Beauty Lip Gloss in Peony Petal over the whole lip. Luckily that gloss is still available, and it’s semi-opaque which means if the stain under it is a bit different it will still look similar. I really like this look because it isn’t as girly-girly as a baby pink lip but it still kind of adds a healthy glow for spring, especially with the glossy finish.
I will definitely be pairing it with a simple, clean blacked winged eye.
You know I just couldn’t stop myself from including a bold red. It’s my lipstick BFF. Luckily I purchased both of these products within the last week so they are readily available too. Winning! To create this look I started with NYX Butter Lipstick in Mary Janes. I applied it straight from the tube, but then touched up the edges with a lip brush to make sure they were crisp. Then I applied NYX Butter Lip Gloss in Red Velvet only to the center of the lips. I did that rather than taking it over the whole lip because the NYX Butter Lipstick is a shiny moisturizing formula on its own, so it’s not like the corners will lack shine. I HATE when you layer a lipgloss over a lipstick and it looks way too goopy and you can see it gathering in the corners. Just hate it. By putting it only in the center you get the same depth and dimension without the potential runny goopiness.
The NYX Butter lipsticks are really nice especially for the price, but they are very creamy and almost feel like a balm so they definitely aren’t long-wearing. Especially with gloss involved. So keep that in mind when considering this combination. But if you are looking for a bold lip that won’t dry you out, then this might be for you. If you need a similar look that will last through a dinner or something you can check out this lip combo I did for the holidays.
I feel like this red in particular is a nice bright and fresh one for spring. It also makes your teeth look super white, which I love!
That’s all for now! Byyyye!

Ah. I’m back. This is kind of unrelated to this post but yours is the only reivew of Ben Nye products I can find, so here it goes anyway. I want to get the Creme Highlight/Shadow that Sam from Pixiwoo used in her Ursula Andress Video, but because the swatches are so impossible, I have NO idea what color to get the highlight in. My skin is NC20-25 neutral-mildly yellowish undertones, and I’m between Nude/Ivory for that SERIOUS Kim K, Scott Barnes highlight/contour. Any suggestions? Sorry to go all random but your makeup is gorgeous, I feel like I’d trust your advice!
Hmmmm This is really hard to judge over the internet to be honest but any input can help a bit right? Lol From my experience the Ben Nye Creme Highlights (in the little round pot Packaging) have a really pink undertone, which might not blend well on someone with neutral/yellow skin. I’m not sure if those are the ones you meant though. I think the Ben Nye MediaPRO creme highlights are a bit more neutral/yellow. As for how light to go, I guess it just depends on how bold you are looking to be with your look, but for reference I am NW15-NW20 (so maybe a tiny bit lighter than you and pinker) and I would probably go with the lightest shade and then make sure I really blend it in well, and my highlight isn’t even usually THAT bold.
Hope that helps a little!
