When I was a kid and a teen . . .and who am I kidding? even now . . . one of my biggest style influence was always Gwen Stefani. Tragic Kingdom was my first cd for god’s sake! She was the first person who made me fall in love with winged eyeliner. This is big stuff here people. So when I saw that her nail polish line for OPI came out, I literally ran out and got it that day. I didn’t even look for swatches, I just knew it was gonna be cool.
I picked up the shades “4 In The Morning” and “Push and Shove” and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m still not as cool as Gwen, but one step at a time, right?
4 In the morning is a satin finish charcoal gray. Charcoal gray in the most literal sense, as it is almost black. The satin finish is BOMB. I always feel like I like the idea of matte polish, but then it looks too dull. This hit’s that perfect middle ground where it still looks polished, but has an interesting texture. The best part is that it actually wore very well. 4 days with no top coat gets a big thumbs up from me.
Push and Shove is a “mirror finish” chrome. It is probably the most truly “chrome” finishes I have ever seen. I had a very hard time capturing it in a photo, but it legitimately looks like metal once it’s on. It comes with a special base coat, which is supposed to increase the metallic finish. To be honest I swatched it with it and without it and saw no difference, but it’s always nice to have an extra base so whatever. I was really impressed by the polish, to the point where I texted pictures of it to everyone I know . . .some were more enthusiastic than others. This wore pretty well also, 3 days with no top coat. It actually specifies that you shouldn’t use one, but I tried it with one and it still looked good, and would have probably lasted even longer.
If you happen to be in the market for a new and interesting polish, or if you just love you some Gwen like I do, I highly recommend these. I’m gonna go try to find my old plaid pants now . . .
