Full disclosure: I tried to write this post yesterday and I sat here for a while and just went “deeehhhhhhhh” for about an hour and then I went to the gym and read the first 300 pages of “Divergent” in one sitting. I didn’t think I would like that book, but I stayed up WAY too late reading it so I guess I was wrong. So long story short, this post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I suck. The end.
The NYX wonder pencil. Do you ever walk into Ulta and pick out one thing, and then when you’re about to leave you feel like you didn’t get anything exciting, so in a panic you grab something cheap near the checkout line, even though you might not even know what it is? This was one of those purchases. There are probably a few of you out there thinking what a ridiculous habit that is, and yeah maybe you’re right. But this thing happens to be awesome so let’s pretend like I made a good choice for a few minutes, mmkay?
You can use this one pencil to conceal blemishes, to highlight the inner corners of your eye, to neaten up the edges of your eyebrows and even to brighten your waterline! Definitely a multi-tasker.
It comes in three colors. Light, Medium and Deep. I got the light one, Which matches on my face, but is way lighter than my hands. My forearms and hands are still tan from summer, and everything else has faded. I look weird. While I am lucky that the light shade matches my (face) skin, I can’t help but think that three shades is not nearly enough. Anyone darker than say . . MAC NW-NC 35 might have a hard time unless they only plan on using it to highlight.
As far as the formula it’s pretty stiff, which is good and bad. If it matches your skin well you can do some very detailed pinpoint concealing, and just tap on it lightly with your finger to blend, but too much blending and it just sort of comes off, so that only works if it matches pretty well. My favorite is using it to make my eyebrows more crisp. I run it under the bottom of the brows to get a nice sharp line.
It also works well to brighten the waterline, and stays in place surprisingly well considering that it doubles as a concealer. It’s doesn’t stay on the waterline the way something like the Urban Decay 24/7 liners do, but it’s pretty damn good. And when it does come off it just sort of fades away, not leaving any mess behind.
I will definitely be bringing this when I travel home for the holidays. I like to multitask while I travel (I pack very lightly, pffffft) and you KNOW I’m gonna get a pimple after eating a bunch of thanksgiving food and showering in NYC tap water again. Change of plans, Family! You guys are all coming to my house for thanksgiving.
Kidding . . .kinda.
You can find these online for around 5 bucks or at your local Ulta . . .and I think maybe Target now too. I’ll have to look for it there and get back to you. But at that price, I think these are nifty to have around. I just wish NYX would step up the color range a bit. Check it out next time you’re at a store that has them, and if there is one appropriate for your skin tone, go for it.
OK I ran out of things to say BYEEEEE!

That’s a really nice review! Couldn’t agree more. I’ve also done one for my blog, feel free to check it out if you want 🙂
