Obviously most of us want to look cute on thanksgiving, because who wants the family to think their life has fallen apart since the last time you saw them? Nobody. Problem is it’s hard to look cute when you are (maybe) traveling and (almost certainly) stuffing your face until you come down with a case of the meat sweats. I will be doing both so I thought it a good idea to think ahead, and share my plan will you all. Obviously I haven’t done this yet, because it’s my first year traveling for the holidays. But I’ve got a number of regular old Thanksgivings under my belt and I’m pretty good at seeing potential beauty problems coming and avoiding them. So I trust myself on this one. If it’s an epic failure I will pop a little edit in here once the holiday is over wand let you know how it went. I’m honest, I’ll gladly let you know when I suck.
MAKEUP: Ok for makeup you want to remember two things. You’re probably going to have a long day ahead of you, and you are going to be eating a lot. So that means a long wearing base and a focus on the eyes instead of the lips. You will regret even the most long lasting lipstick on earth on Thanksgiving, I promise you.
Lucky for you I did a long wear foundation video not too long ago. Look at me timing things well!
Once your base is on, and it’s not going anywhere, then focus on your eyes. Nothing too out of your comfort zone, but maybe a little bit of shimmer just to make sure its festive. Even though you want to feel like you look special, you don’t want to feel like you look weird and think about it all day either, you know what I mean? If you are going to do anything precise like a winged eyeliner, then choose waterproof. You don’t want to worry that your liner is migrating south either.
I’m going to go with a bronze lid and a small winged liner, which is right in my comfort zone and I know how well it wears. For my lips I’m going to slap on some eight hour cream and call it a day. That way the will look glossy and stay well conditioned, but I don’t have to think twice about how they look either. All of this is what is pictured above, by the way. If you really feel like you want some color on your lippies you can try a natural looking stain that doesn’t require any maintenance throughout the day.
HAIR: I’m driving in to the city the night before Thanksgiving, which for me pretty much guaranties I will be working with day two hair. My plan is to do it in messy waves before I leave (because they last a few days) and then on Thanksgiving day I will pin the front out of my face OR wear my little turban hat depending on whether or not it’s like the Arctic Circle outside. I felt like a beanie was too casual so I thought a knitted turban was a better choice, but a beanie works too if you do a very casual holiday. Either way the point is I know I will want my hair out of my face in one way or another. Otherwise it will stick to my forehead when the meat sweats hit. Hahahaha that’s so gross I’m sorry. New topic! I will probably bring a bottle of dry shampoo too, because I hate washing my hair away from home. It just never comes out right, and I don’t want to bring ten thousand styling products either.
That’s my advice. I’ll let you know how it goes.
In other news, like I mentioned I will be traveling this week, so my posts might be a tiny bit less frequent. I will definitely have one up on Friday, so that’s not too bad. If you miss my dumb face too much you can always follow me on instagram. When I get back I plan on getting the Christmas posts rolling right away. I already started some DIY gifts, but there is plenty more to come!
