It’s here, the hourglass ambient lighting palette! And I’ve had it long enough to test it thoroughly! And it’s really really amazing!
After weeks of talking about these powders finally - a review. I don’t really know how to describe them except to say it’s like having the photoshop gaussian blur tool in real life. Fine lines and pores just go away when you dust it over your makeup. Having three colors in a palette is perfect because you can use the darkest color around the perimeter of your face, and to help blend your contouring, there’s a highlight shade and a shade for everywhere else. I was originally going to spring for two of them separately but I didn’t want to spend that much money, so this palette is a perfect compromise. It is actually not any less expensive if you look at the cost per ounce, but you get to try different shades so thats a winner in my book.
In the pan I know that the left color and the middle look identical, but when you put them on the skin the middle color is a cool toned highlight, and the left is almost translucent. As you can see on the packaging they tend to kick up a bit of dust as you use them, probably because they are very soft. You really only need to tap your brush into the powder gently.
As for the packaging, it’s sleek, it functions well (not hard to open or anything) and it is pretty to look at. The best part is the mirror! It has a magnifying mirror in the compact that somehow manages to magnify without distorting anything. How did they do that?
As far as how it functions, here is a photo of my makeup yesterday, right after I applied the powder and got into the car.
I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but my skin is glowing it’s ass off. I guess it’s not tooting my own horn if I give all the credit to the powder, right?
The only thing I feel I must say is that these are NOT setting powders, they are finishing powders. So if you normally powder your skin to set your foundation you should still do that. I tried to use this in place of setting powder once or twice and it looked great at first but I got a little too dewy by the end of the night. Other than that I would scoop this one up while it’s available! You can get it at Sephora online or in store.
