FACT: I wear glasses. FACT: I own too many pairs of them. FACT: Wearing makeup to suit your glasses is easier than you think.
I get asked fairly often “How do I wear makeup if I have glasses?” And while I totally get where this question is coming from, the answer is pretty simple - Pretty much any damn way you want! Seriously, that simple!
Here is whats up, your glasses frame your eyes in the most literal way imagineable, and they tend to be the focal point of your eye area. So this allows you to get away with a lot. You can wear almost no eye makeup, and your glasses will pick up the slack. You can wear a little too much eye makeup and your glasses will help tone it down. You can wear a super red lip and it will be extra awesome because who doesn’t love a red lip with glasses? Answer: Nobody
So now that I gave you an answer that seems like a total cop-out let me redeem myself by showing you the ways that I like to wear my makeup when my glasses are on. No rules, just some ideas and inspiration, sound good?
The first way is the simplest way. Basically a “No Makeup- Makeup” look. The usual skin routine with bold brows (always), mascara, soft cheeks and a touch of shiny balm on the lips. My favorite way to pair this is with a neutral sweater, a chic scarf and my square green/tortoise frames. This is definitely on the more classic, preppy side for me, but I enjoy that every now and then. If I wore this look without glasses I would feel too naked, but with them - Super put together! Look at me go psshhhh. . . .
Ok the next makeup look is exactly the same, but with a matte red lip added. I like to wear this when I am wearing my really chunky trendy frames, and pair it with a really cozy scarf, a simple sweater and some tough boots. Simple, cozy and put together. (I think, anyway)
Ok the last way is to just stick a cute dog in your lap and nobody will notice your face. Just kidding!…kinda. The last way I like to wear glasses is with winged eyeliner. I usually like to wear my winged liner when I’m wearing my cat eye frames. I like the way the shape of the liner reflects the shape of the glasses because I’m weird and I think about these types of things. As you can tell by the picture, the liner barely peeks out, but it’s still there. Come to think of it, this might be a good way to start wearing winged liner if you’re a little worried about it! In this instance I wore it with a red lip, but nude or glossy lips work as well if you don’t want to be overly retro and feminine. I like to pair this look with something a little more menswear inspired like a plaid button down shirt, just to balance out the look. For the record, sticking a bulldog in front of your face works too.
A FEW TIPS:
While there are no rules to wearing makeup with glasses there are some things you can do to make sure you look on the top of your game.
1. Fill your eyebrows. If you brows are sparse or unruly, glasses will only call attention to what they lack. If you don’t normally fill them in, give it a shot next time you wear your glasses, it might make a world of difference. Or just try it any old time because who doesn’t love a nice looking brow, amiright?
2. Keep some powder handy to touch up your nose. This will help you if your nose gets oily and your glasses start sliding around (does that happen to anyone else?) It will also come in handy if you decide to take your glasses off, so you can touch up the spot on your nose where the makeup got rubbed off.
That’s all I have for you at the moment. Seriously though you can wear your makeup however you want, don’t let glasses stop you. And don’t let naysayers tell you that your glasses restrict your makeup choices either. Just rock it and prove them wrong 😉

going to have to try making my eyebrows show as they don’t now love
sure wish I would have learned about this before you left
Well, I’ll have to give you a lesson next time I’m back home 😉
Hi! I just saw your blog today and I love it! I totally agree with you with your eyebrows tip! I think you can wear makeup anyway you want with glasses except that I would shy away from pairing it with shimmery eyeshadow cause it’ll sometimes reflect in the glasses. At least that’s what some of the big brands are recommending like BH Cosmetics on their <a href="Link text “>blog, and from my own personal experience. 🙂
Hmm interesting about the shimmer! I never noticed that happening, but then again I don’t use a ton of shimmer eyeshadows. Thanks for the heads up I’ll try to make note of that if it ever comes up!
What kind of glasses are there first two… Love them!!!!
The first pair is From Michael Kors from a few years ago, the Second Pair the Ritzy Frame from Vint&York ( http://www.vintandyork.com ) and the third pair is the Elizabeth Frame from Elizabeth And James. 🙂
