As you probably already know, this week was New York Fashion Week! While I love fashion, I generally end up forgetting about the clothes and stalking the internet to see what the makeup and nail trends on the runway were. While doing my stalking I stumbled upon a manicure that was on the Kate Spade runway (I saw it here)
and I immediately wanted to recreate it. I’m not sure who the nail artist was, but I salute them. Luckily I had a little bag of nail studs that I ordered a while ago, so I got to work making a tutorial.
This manicure is really simple but eye catching, and in my opinion thats what nail art should be!
People aren’t accustomed to seeing 3D appliances on nails so prepare yourself to have lots of conversations with strangers about your manicure…personally I enjoy it, but obviously talking to strangers about my manicures and makeup is sorta my thing.
The studs I have don’t stick up as high as the Kate Spade ones, but I think that makes them more practical…Anyway if you want to find out how I did it, follow along!
Step 1.
Step 1. Gather the things you will need, which are a thick top coat, black polish (or whatever color you want) and your studs. Make sure the studs are out of the bag or container because you don’t want to be trying to dig them out with damp nails. Apply your color as usual, I did two coats and then let it dry a bit.
Step 2.
Step 2. Apply the thick top coat to ONE NAIL. If you do them all it will not be sticky enough by the time you get to the stud.
Step 3.
Step 3. Pick up one stud with you fingers and drop it on to the area of your nail about 1/4 inch away from the cuticle. Use your finger to gently press it into the wet top coat. If you are looking for a longer lasting stud, you can put top coat on and wait for them to dry, and then attach each stud with nail glue. I don’t like to use glue on my nails though so I went for the top coat method.
Step 4.
Step 4. Repeat this on all the nails. Make sure to pay close attention to the pinky nail, because the curve or the nail bed is tighter on that finger, which makes the stud want to pop off more easily.
And Voila!
That’s your studded manicure. Obviously I don’t have the long almond shaped nails that the models wore…but I still dig the way this looks! It’s so easy too so I think anyone can do it.
If you want to get your hands on the things I used I will link them all below!
