First of all a disclaimer: I’m not a dermatologist, I’m not a sufferer of sever acne, I’m not a skincare expert. I’m just a person who gets a rogue pimple every now and then, and uses this simple DIY acne treatment to help get rid of it. I don’t expect you to replace any prescription treatments with this or to use it all over your entire face all the time (it’s pretty drying that would be a bad idea) But for a random, big whopping honker of a zit every now and then, as a spot treatment, this works winderfully.
I’ve often waxed poetic about the wonders of apple cider vinegar. Honestly it’s amazing stuff, it can be really helpful for a ton of things, and I even use it as a DIY toner from time to time. Tea tree oil is also a well known potent natural ingredient, and it can do some great things for your hair and skin, including treat acne. Knowing this I decided to add some tea tree oil to my ACV toner recipe and use it as a spot treatment one day when I had a particularly annoying ass pimple that just wouldn’t quit…. and it worked better than I even anticipated. It takes down the nasty inflammation and starts the healing process without making the area dry and flakey.
The recipe is super simple
- 1 part Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (with the natural culture intact)
- 1 Part Water
- 2-4 Drops Tea Tree Oil
Add ingredients together in an appropriate bottle and shake it up. It’s that simple. It should come out looking something like this…
Some things to note:
- The more Tea Tree you add the more potent and/or drying it will be. But also keep in mind that the more water and ACV you use, the more the Tea Tree will dilute as well.
- I put it in a spray bottle because that’s what I had, but a bottle with a dropper or even just a bottle with a small mouth would work too. I usually just spray a tiny bit on my (clean) finger and dab it onto the zit.
- My husband has mentioned that this smells like “salad and hospital” he’s not exactly wrong but it does fade pretty quickly, and even if it didn’t it’s potent enough for it to be worth it. Bring on the hospital salad!…ok gross.
Let me know if you try it the next time you get a big old angry pimple, but here’s hoping that doesn’t happen ?
