I’m not a massive fan of new years eve. This year I stayed home, ate chipotle and drank a dirty chai, it was my best NYE yet #facts
But just because I don’t like to go out for the new year, doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the idea of a fresh start. Really, it’s just another day, but when an excuse to make positive changes come up, you grab that sucker. So here are the beauty related resolutions I am making for 2014.
- Drink More Water: I have spoken before about the importance of staying hydrated, and I go through long phases where I’m really good about it, but for some reason this one is where I tend to slack off sometimes. This time I am going to try hard to stick to it. I even stuck a note up on my fridge above the water filter. . .I didn’t word it very kindly, but I respond well to tough love.
- Go Bare Faced: In the new year I am going to try to go bare faced at least once a week, and sometimes even twice. I usually have at least one day a week where I don’t go out enough to warrant a full face of makeup anyway, but sometimes I still put some on just to feel more put together. I want to try to feel completely comfortable with nothing on my face, and also give my skin a day without being covered by foundation or BB cream. I’m sure my dog and the kids at my local coffee shop will get over it.
- Whiten My Teeth: I don’t smoke, and I use a whitening toothpaste, so my teeth look pretty decent…but they could look better. I always want to buy whitening kits, but then I cheap out on spending the 30+ bucks because I tell myself I don’t really need it. This year I am going to commit to using either strips or trays on a regular basis. I’m sure there is one less sweater or night of ordering takeout that I can do without, and that money can go toward the pearly whites.
- Less Heat Styling: I am very good about being gentle to my hair. BUT lately I have been really into making it really big and wavy. I like to look like a lion. Since I naturally have very straight, smooth hair this requires a lot of heat tools. My hair feels a little dryer on the ends than usual, which is not ok, so I am going to back off on the heat tools and let it air dry more often. Flat-ish hair isn’t the end of the end of the world . . .I guess. This one might be tough, I’m glad it’s beanie weather!
- Buy Less: This is my least favorite, but I think it needs to be done. I am going to try to buy less cosmetics and be more creative using my current collection. Obviously I write a beauty blog so I will have to buy some things to try and review, but I’m gonna cut back. Maybe only buy a new thing to try if it replaces something else I ran out of? We’ll see but either way I will try my best to be more frugal . . .waaaah! I hate this one!
So that’s the plan and I’m sticking to it. Are you making any beauty resolutions this year? I would love to hear about them!

My beauty resolution is really just to put more effort into my appearance. I don’t usually wear make-up at work (I work on a work floor), but surely even I could manage a little bit of concealer and fill in my eyebrows a bit. And on the weekends I want to learn some new makeup skills. I enjoy how I look when I do this and so does my boyfriend. 🙂
Other than that-continue to eat healthier and thrift most of my clothes. LOVE thrifting! And it saves me a lot of money that would otherwise go to clothing expenses.
Those are good ones! Thrifting IS awesome, what a smart resolution!
