So, as of right now It’s still cold here on the East Coast, but I’m already getting excited for the warmer weather. It’s almost here! It’s almost here! I always get excited when the seasons change, and I’m SUPER sick of winter right now, so if it’s not warm soon I’m gonna lose it!
The one thing I don’t love about the warmer weather is I feel less comfortable wearing a really dark lip. I don’t know what it is, It’s not like a dark lipstick makes you hotter, I guess it just seems to heavy for the lighter clothing and bright sunlight…or something?
But there are options and talking about those options makes me feel one step closer to NEEDING those options so let’s discuss, shall we?
(I will link all the products at the end in case you want to know where you can get them)
Just because lipstick isn’t dark and vampy doesn’t mean it can’t be bold! And there are TOTALLY ways to make vampy work for spring and summer too. For example…
OK Mac “Rebel” isn’t exactly super dark, but its purple undertones give it that vampy feel. It also has a pinkness and slight sheen that make it the perfect alternative for spring and summer. This is my go to when I want an edgier, more rock and roll look in the hot weather.
And you know what? If you want to wear super dark lips all summer long, and you feel comfy in it, do it up! As long as it works for you, who cares what season it is right?
I don’t really do girly, nude-pinks. If I wear pink its going to be one hell of a walloping one. My favorite spring/summer pink color is Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Pencil in “Crush”. These go on really opaque but don’t feel heavy and they also have a really nice shiny finish that reminds me of vinyl. Crush is a super “in yo face” blue based pink, that really stands out, so it’s great for getting that really bold lip look, in a spring/summer kind of way.
Now, if you ask me warm weather doesn’t mean putting away your red lipsticks AT ALL. But sometimes it makes me lean towards lighter formulas, and more glossy finishes…at least during the day. My favorite summer red that fits the bill is YSL Glossy Stain #10. It is still a red lip, no wishy washy “Maybe thats a red lip but it’s just gloss so I can’t tell” here. But the formula is translucent and jelly-like, and it also wears light as air and stays on for ages, so it’s perfect for hot weather. I did a comparison of the YSL Glossy Stain and the L’oreal Shine Caresse Stains. Click that link if you want to read about it, they are pretty much identical and L’oreal has nice reds too at a more budget friendly price point.
And not to be forgotten, the bright coral/orange lip. This particular color is actually not a “Lipstick” per say, but Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain in “Guava”. I LIVED in this color last summer. It is basically equal parts pink and orange which is super flattering to most skin tones. It comes in a marker type applicator, with a colored balm on the other end. So during the day you can top it up with a little of the balm and it looks just as good as when you first applied it. Just warm weather perfection in a tube really.
And if you want a true orange lip, have a peek at my YouTube tutorial on how to get a juicy orange lip look. I paired it with a pop of violet on the eyes, but if that’s not your thing, you can wear it however you like!
I hope this helps you get as pumped up for the sun and warmth as I am…and if it’s already warm where you are then can I come visit? This snow is really a drag! Hahahaha
