Well Hello Again!
It looks like Day 6 of my holiday makeup series is upon us… would ya look at that! We are just flying through this month.
Today we have another lip look. Today we are taking the plunge into some serious red territory here folks.
Wowza!
This one, admittedly, is not for the faint of heart. But it is actually really flattering, really easy to do, and it makes your lips look HUGE!
Much like Day 5, this one is more of an evening look…but really if you did it with a very simple eye you could make it work…I believe in you!
I actually wore this during the day today, at like 3pm to go get a pedicure…So if I can do that you can make it work at a holiday party!
“But how will I achieve this look?” you ask.
Step 1- use a dark red/purple lip liner to fill in your lips, but only the outer corners. For the remaining center part of your lips use a bright red to fill it in completely. You want to fill in the entire lip with the lip liner, this will help keep the lipstick on for as long as possible. When you have some sort of intense lip look on, you sure as hell don’t want to be redoing it all day or night.
Step 2- Use the bright red lipstick of your choice and apply it in the center of the lip, and then blend it out toward the edges where the darker liner is, with a lip brush. You want to sort of mix it in to the dark liner so it fades together without a hard line. I used a liquid lipstick for this, but you can use a regular old solid one. It will just be a teeny bit harder to blend.
Step 3- Take your favorite highlighter (a shimmery pale eyeshadow will also do) and pat it in the center of the bottom lip and a little on your cupid’s bow.
You can stop here if you want, but I wasn’t quite satisfied with the depth of it yet. Go big or go home right?
Step 4- (Optional) Take a black eyeliner and use a small, really small like microscopic bit of it in the very very corner of your lips and blend it into the darker lipliner with a clean lip brush. (Don’t use the one with the red lipstick on it, you will make mud out of the whole look. At least clean it off.)
This step really took it to new levels. It was quite deliberate looking, and I loved it!
The great thing about this type of look is it adds SO much depth and makes the center super full and pouty. And because it’s blended and pretty, it doesn’t look like that 90’s “joker lip” which makes me cringe.
Best of all, this stayed on for an unreasonably long stretch of time. I ate yogurt and then 3 hours later nachos, and then a cup of coffee and it didn’t budge.
WINNING!
