Hi Guys! As you all know, Thanksgiving week is here! Yay!!! I LOVE thanksgiving, it just makes me feel so warm and cozy. I love the smells and the crisp air and I especially love the deep, rich color palette… and the potatoes…and the pie…and the biscuits…and just allllll the food….OK it’s mostly the food that I like…
So for my thanksgiving makeup, I wanted to do something with deep rich plum, bronze, gold, and burnt orange…Like a cornucopia on my face!
Here is the step by step of how I created the eye look…
Step 1.
Start by preparing the eye with an eyeshadow primer. Then take a bronze eyeliner and place it on the outer 1/3 of the mobile lid. On the inner 2/3 of the lid place a white-ish eye pencil and gently blend the two together where they meet. This will help make the two lid colors more vibrant when you place them on top later.
Step 2.
Next take a dark purple eyeliner pencil and place it in the crease. Blend this color out and upward toward the brow. Use your ring finger to pat along the line where it meets the lid color to blend it VERY slightly. You Don’t want the line to look unfinished, but you want a clear line to create a “Cut Crease” look. You may also want to add some more of the bronze liner at this point to make sure it has enough impact.
Step 3.
Find a matte plum purple color and pat it into to crease line where you placed the purple eyeliner. Pat in on at first with a flat brush to pack color on, and then use a clean blending brush to buff it out and up towards the brow. Make sure the edges are soft but don’t over blend. If you ever have a hard time figuring out what shape to smoke out your shadow, try following the shape of the under side of your eyebrow.
Step 4.
To diffuse the edge of the purple even more, take the same brush you used to apply the purple and use it to apply a matte flesh tone along the edge and up to the brow. This will just make the blending more seamless and finished.
Step 5.
Take a metallic bronze shadow and with a dense brush pat it over the area where you placed the bronze eye pencil.
Step 6.
Then take a small brush and gently press a white-gold glitter to the inner corner of the eyelid and under it on the tear duct area to brighten up the inner corner and wake up the eyes…and add a little glamour of course! If your eye pencil is not tacky enough to hold on the glitter you can use another type of base like a mixing medium, liner sealing gel or even another clear glitter liner to help it stick.
Step 7.
To Finish off the look take just a small touch more purple and drag it under the lower lash line, almost all the way across until it meets the glitter. Apply the same bronze liner that you used on the lid to the lower water line, and then curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara, and the eyes are done!
I was originally going to use false lashes with this look, but I figured nobody wants to go into a turkey coma with things glued to their face, so this version seemed more comfortable for cozy time with the family. Of course, you could totally add some false lashes if you want and they would look awesome.
To finish this look I applied a burnt orange lipstick to warm up the purple and continue those cozy thanksgiving colors. Also because purple and orange are complimentary (opposite) colors, and I like the way the darkened versions of complimentary colors play off each other… because I’m a huge nerd.
I wish this photo was a little better, but by the time I finished up, I had lost my natural light… BOOO flash stinks! It washes it out a bit (At least this time it didn’t make my nose disappear hahaha) but you guys get the picture I think. I hope some of you give it a try, or at least it helps inspire your look for this week!
Do you guys have any looks in mind for thanksgiving?
