Today is the first day of the year that it is really chilly here. Nothing makes me happier than that fall nip in the air, but I really wish I had a fireplace.
For now I made myself cozy with an at home fireplace inspired manicure! That’s kind of the same thing right? Oh come one just humor me a little….
How cool is that? It really reminds me of fire and it is even nicer in person, I swear! It is always so exciting to me when I have an idea in my mind of what I want something to look like, and It actually turns out that way. As soon as these were done I ran and grabbed the camera because I was so pumped to share it.
The best part is, it was super easy!
You will need:
1. A Burgundy or oxblood nail polish with a creme finish.
I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in “Cinna Snap”
You could use any burgundy, even if it has a shimmer finish. I just like the contrast between the glittery gold and the creme finish of this polish.
2. A gold pigment, glitter or loose eyeshadow
I used Sugarpill “Goldilux” loose eyeshadow
You can use any gold glitter or pigment, or even a pressed gold eyeshadow if you don’t mind crushing a little bit of it up to dust it on the top of your nails.
3. An eyeliner brush or any small-ish brush.
I Used my Real Techniques “Pixel Point Liner Brush”
I don’t use this for eyeliner, so I have repurposed it as my nail art brush. I also use it to clean up around the edges of my manicure with some remover when I’m all done.
You probably don’t want to use your brush for eyeliner again after you dip it in nail polish remover. I mean I guess if you washed it it might be ok. I don’t know about you but I’m not personally too keen on jamming even trace amounts of acetone into my eye though. So why not err on the side of caution, don’t you think?
Plus your friends will think you are super creative and all DIY-y if you have a brush designated just for your nail art.
4. A Top Coat
I used Essie “3 Way Glaze” as both a top coat and a base coat.
How to make the magic happen:
To start off, just paint your nails us usual with your burgundy color. While it is still sticky but not super wet, dust a tiny bit of your gold pigment around the base of your nail right near the cuticle with the small brush.
With the same brush gently drag it down about 1/4 of the way down the nail.
Essentially what you are creating is a reverse ombre effect.
Next apply the top coat as you normally would but a little slower and more gently. This will help spread the finer bits of pigment a little further down the nail, and mix it a little further into the burgundy, giving it a more gradual transition.
And Voila! Done.
So simple, and super pretty for fall even if you do have a real fireplace.
