Do you ever sit down to do your makeup and think “Uggggh do I really need to prep my skin? Can’t I just slap some foundation on my face? Does it really make a difference?” Or alternatively are you one of those people who just never preps their skin and goes right for foundation every time? Well, for the sake of science I decided to put this to the test and look at photos side by side. I already knew the answer but for those who need convincing I used myself as a guinea pig to put skin prep to the test. Check this shit out…
Look at how much bigger my freakin pores look if I don’t prep my skin! LOOK AT IT. That’s with the same exact foundation on, applied the same way. It makes a difference guys.
Now what you use to prep your skin will depend on your skin, but it’s pretty much always a good idea to moisturize before you apply foundation…yes even if you’re oily. Personally my skin is normal/combination and I have large pores around the apples of my cheeks so that dictates what I used to prep my skin or foundation.
My first step is to prep my (clean) face with a very light beauty oil. My favorite is the Korres Wild Rose Oil which I have raved about in the past.
Then I use a pore smoothing primer (I have a post about how I like to use pore filling primers patted over my foundation, but this particular one has changed the game for me and works really well under foundation too)
HOWEVER I do not prime my entire face with this. I only use it on the spots where I have uneven texture. I find that pore smoothing primer is a bit too heavy if I apply it all over.
Depending on your skin your primer needs will be different. Some people may not need a primer at all, it really depends on your skin type.
So if you think skin prep before foundation doesn’t make a difference look at those photos up there. Good googly moogly. It can have a huge impact on how your foundation sits.
