Toning shampoo for dark hair is something I never though existed. Like unicorns or leprechauns or cheese that I don’t want to eat. Little did I know that not only does toning shampoo for dark hair exist, but it’s literally just the same toning shampoo thats marketed for blondes. Yup, you read that right, you can just buy the same ones you see for blondes and use it on your dark hair.
Why they don’t mention that you can use it on dark hair is beyond me, but my resident hair color specialist (aka Momma QuinnFace) assured me that it works and made some suggestions for maximum toneage. Here’s what I learned from her and from my experience, so if you’re like me and have dark hair that’s just being a little b*tch and looking too warm then you can tone it up a bit too.
The difference is subtle, but I’m impressed with how much less brassy the lighter areas of my hair look after just one time using the shampoo. I need my color done to touch up this light areas to be honest but it served as a good way to illustrate the difference the toning made so I’m glad I waited. The light areas look almost grey, which is something I tried to achieve and failed miserably at in recent history so I’ll take it for now ?
The rest of the hair is back to looking like the cool/neutral color it is when my color is freshly done, so I would say it’s a great success. Hoorah!
