Actually, crimpin’ is super easy. Crimping for volume is the fastest and easiest hair trick I have come across in a while, and it actually works. I saw a video that Wendy of “Wendy’s Lookbook” made where she used a crimper to add volume, but I was really doubtful that it would work for me because my hair, although it’s SUPER thick is very fine in texture, and it looks as if her’s is more coarse.
But I’m always looking for new ways to add volume to my roots without a ton of product or teasing, so I figured I would give it a shot.
Basically what you want to do is add a small section of crimped hair near the root, in a spot where it is going to be hidden behind some more hair (see the photos below for an example) I recommend using a mini travel crimper for this because it is easier to control where you are crimping and you can just add little sections wherever you need more volume.
The crimps basically create extra texture (almost like a desirable frizz but nobody likes frizz so we won’t call it that) in a hidden spot, and the texture adds some extra thickness and lifts up the hair on top. The best part is it takes about 30 seconds to do it, it stays in way longer than teasing and your hair isn’t stiff and stuck in one place like it is with teasing and hairspray. It has lift but your hair can still move and you can still run your fingers through it!
How crazy is that? And it’s super duper easy. So whoever came up with this idea, thank you, you are a genius. If crimping for volume can work on my hair, it can work on anyone. Trust me, my flat hair problems are hardcore ;P
