Halloween is almost here! And guess what! I’m not doing anything . . .as usual and I don’t even have a costume. This happens every year!
I know I’m totally lame and I should do some halloween tutorials or something, but listen here’s the bottom line: I’m the worst. I have no other excuse. It’s been a busy few months and I’ve been a little distracted and I’m just the worst. There you have it.
(I MAY try to sneak in an easy Halloween nail art post. It’s still in the experimental phases at the moment though, so I don’t want to make any promises just yet)
Here’s the good news. Some of you are probably being lame-o’s too and you’re looking for some really easy-peasy way to be at least a little festive. So let’s talk about some vampy lipstick! I have three of them that I’m loving right now, so maybe you’ll like them too and they will make you feel like you at least TRIED to do something halloween-y.
NYX Copenhagen is what I like to think of as like an entry level vampy lipstick. Its pretty dark, but it’s still definitely in the red-burgundy family so it’s a little more wearable. It’s also pretty damn affordable at $5.99 so if you only wear it a few times you wont feel so bad. See? Perfect entry level. If you want to go a little crazier they also have a color called Transylvania which is SUPER dark and definitely not entry level, but it’s still affordable so it’s a good option as well.
A few of you have requested a full review of the NYX soft matte lip creams, and I will get to it I promise! For now just know that I keep mentioning them because I do really like them.
The NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Pencils are pretty new, and when I saw the display at Ulta I was like yeah . . .one of those is coming home with me. I’m like a creepy dude at a bar but with lipstick.
Enamored is a very unique color, it’s brownish, blackened purple with a metallic finish. I added a macro shot there to try to give you an idea of what it really looks like. It’s definitely vampy and maybe not for the faint of heart, but it’s also from NYX and super affordable, so again not too scary to buy even if you feel like it’s a bit out of your comfort zone.
The formula is very nice, it glides on well and it sets. It doesn’t set as well as some long-wear mattes, but it definitely settles in for a nice amount of wear time. It’s not transfer proof though, a little comes off on coffee cups and stuff like that. I haven’t tried any of the other colors so it’s hard to say if the formula is the same across the board, but all of the vampy colors in the collection look really fun.
This one is definitely very very vampy looking, but its really pretty and definitely very interesting and nuanced for such an affordable product.
Lime Crime Velvetine in Salem
I mentioned this lipstick in a “lust list” post not that long ago, and if you haven’t read that one yet then spoiler alert…I bought it. I also added a macro shot of this because I already had the lens out and they look cool so why the hell not.
I’ve reviewed a Lime Crime Velvetine before, and the formula is pretty much identical between the two colors so I won’t delve too deep into that again. If you want a full review of the formula you can ready about it HERE
Obviously this is perfect for Halloween or vampy lips any time of the year. I mean it’s called Salem, hello! Its a dark brown matte with just enough red undertone to make it flattering. It’s also super on trend right now because as I’m sure you all know, that whole 90’s brownish-matte lip trend is like taking the entire internet by storm. It has literally taken over the entire internet. I didn’t think I was into at first, but this is the color that changed my mind. I’m a sucker for liquid matte lipsticks, what can I say?
This one is a bit higher in the price range, but it’s really high quality so in my opinion it’s very much worth it.
EDIT: There is a Salem dupe available HERE
Those are my vampy lipstick picks for the time being, I’m sure I’ll wear one of them on Halloween . . .or maybe I’ll stay in and wear pajamas all day, time will tell!
Are any of you doing anything fun or making a really cool makeup/costume look? Leave me a comment about it so I can live vicariously through your fun! (LOL)
