If you read my posts regularly you may have noticed that I usually tend to reach for either a completely opaque bright lip color or a colorless gloss, and don’t often go in between. There are always exceptions of course, but I definitely have tendencies. Lately though, I have been really loving a nice wash of pretty color, especially a sheer plum lipstick. There’s just something very flattering about it that makes your lips look nice and healthy and brightens up your complexion. It reminds me of delicious jam or something. I likey . . .and I also like jam. Mmmm jam, ok I’m getting off track here.
I have been reaching for these three of these sheer plummy shades in particular, because they all have that luscious effect that I was talking about, but are easy to throw on and to pair with pretty much any makeup look.
Maybelline Color Whisper in “A Plum Prospect” – I forgot how much I liked this until recently. Color whispers are so good, man. They are just the right amount of sheer color and go on so smooth. This particular shade of plum has a little more pink in it than the others so it’s nice for daytime, or if you are looking for a slightly more bright and fresh look. It also feels comfortable and light on the lips and leaves them well conditioned because it’s very balm-like.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in “Plum” – Speaking of balm-like, this one pretty much is just a balm. But the super sheer wash of plum color is great if you want something to keep in your purse just to have around in case you want to add some life to your lips without having to look in the mirror and apply something carefully. The Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are pretty expensive as far as lip balm goes, and every time I buy one I question my own sanity. But they are super smooth, smell great, and leave your lips plump and smooth so I guess spending a few extra dollars on an expensive balm isn’t THAT crazy. OH and the cap screws onto the tube so it doesn’t come off in your purse and leave you to eventually find an uncapped balm with crumbs stuck to it. That alone is worth extra money to me.
MAC Lustre Lipstick in “Plumful” – This is the newest addition to my lippy arsenal and it has quickly become a favorite. I actually put this on the other day when I was sitting around the house because I just wanted to look at it again. It’s definitely more of a proper lipstick in that it has a lot of pigmentation and less slip to the formula. It is MAC’s Lustre formula it is much more sheer and slightly shinier than their other lipsticks, which is what gives it that sheer almost stained glass, yummy look that I’m obsessing over. I also find that this particular MAC formula is a lot less drying than their matte or shimmer shades. I mean it’s not a balm type of thing like the other two, but you aren’t gonna wake up the next morning wondering what the hell happened to your lips either, which is always a plus.
So thats is the sheer plum lipstick that I have in heavy rotation at the moment, or I guess plum lip color would be more accurate since some are kinda balmy. Do you have any sheer plummy colors that you like? I would love to check out some more formulas!
