I mean I’m not even counting all of the ways that I eat coconut oil ( I even use it to make a latte in the morning) Basically my body is just a bag of skin filled with coconut.
On top of all that I recently discovered that it’s like the BEST makeup remover in the history of time and space, BUT you have to know how to do it right.
I have seen tons of people say they use it to take off their makeup, but every time I tried it just left me feeling greasy and I felt like it left some makeup behind. So I just kept using my store bought remover because it works, so whatevs.
Fast forward to other night: I ran out of makeup remover, it was real late, I had just watched a lot of episodes all the episodes of “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix and my pajamas were feeling especially comfy so I was in way to deep to go out to the store. I figured I would give the coconut oil method one last shot, but this time I was determined to get it right.
Well, I did get it right and now I’m gonna crack and egg of knowledge all over you.
-Take your cotton pad and quickly dip it into the warm water ( I just used the bathroom sink). You want to wet the cotton pad but don’t soak it. You want it to be wet but you don’t want it dripping down your face.
-Then take a nickel sized dollop of coconut oil and put it on the damp pad. Then just use it to remove your makeup like normal.
Basically what you’re doing is creating a bi-phase makeup remover. You know the cool ones that have two layers in the bottle and you shake them up? You’re just applying the layers to the cotton pad separately instead of keeping them in one bottle.
The water will break down water soluble compounds, the oil will break down oil soluble ones, the warmth helps everything break down easier, the water stops the oil from greasing up your face and finally the oil leaves you feeling soft and moisturized. It’s kinda perfect, guys.
I just let the pad sit on each eye for a minute or so and then gently rub it all away. Then I make a new pad and use it to gently wipe away the makeup on my skin.
And the best part is it doesn’t leave my face and eyes feeling greasy AT ALL. The water helps with that a lot. I really hate going to bed with greasy feeling eyes so this is a huge plus.
I am a big fan of double cleansing my skin, and this is a really gentle and effective way to do that. After I take all the makeup off, I use my Clarisonic and I feel like a beautiful newborn baby…that’s weird no I don’t. But it feels nice and clean.
If you aren’t a fan of keeping a huge jar of oil in your bathroom, you can use an old makeup remover bottle and decant a little into that. You can see in the photo above that I keep mine in a bottle that used to be a deluxe sample of “Purity Made Simple”
OH! and if you live near a Trader Joe’s, buy your coconut oil there. For reals. They sell the same sized jar you can get everywhere else for less than half the price, and it’s still organic and unrefined and all that, so it’s not like you are compromising quality. I don’t know who Trader Joe is, but I want to give him a hug.
If you aren’t lucky enough to have Joe in your life, then you can get your coconut oil at GNC or Whole Foods, some regular supermarkets or online.
